Dancing Danny is caught between a rock and a hard place. Indebted to a street tough who saved his life, Danny reluctantly becomes a boxer to pay him back. Then he meets a dancer named Bella, who teaches him a few moves of her own. But is Danny's meteoric rise to the boxing championships due to his skill, or are there other forces at play? Two performers play 14 characters in this smash-hit 1930s-set physical comedy told through rapid-fire dialogue, high-energy dance numbers, ridiculous puppetry, true love and, of course, boxing! Having garnered awards and raves since its 2002 premiere, the Sossy Mechanics' smash-hit will "send the entire audience out of the theatre with a spring in their step" according to The Guardian.

Guthrie Theater Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Guthrie Theater is at Dowling Studio, 818 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN.

The Guthrie Theater opened on May 7, 1963, with a production of Hamlet directed by Sir Tyrone Guthrie, the theater’s founder. The idea for a different kind of theater sparked in 1959 during a series of conversations among Guthrie, an acclaimed theater director, and his two colleagues, Oliver Rea and Peter Zeisler, who were all disenchanted with Broadway. They envisioned a resident theater that would draw world-class artists to perform the classics with the highest professional standards. What began as a summer season of four productions supported by a minimal staff is now a complex organization that serves nearly 350,000 patrons and the Twin Cities community year-round.
