Wendy Wasserstein’s Isn’t It Romantic follows with the post-college trials and tribulations of two best friends: would-be writer Janie Blumberg and her friend, Harriet Cornwall. Both are struggling to reconcile their new-found independence as young professional women in New York City with lingering parental domination, and to establish their own lives and identities. For Janie, this leads to her involvement with a young Jewish doctor who calls her "Monkey," while Harriet enters the business world and begins an affair with her charming, cynical boss. Told in a fast-moving series of funny, touching and revealing scenes, Isn’t It Romantic explores Janie and Harriet’s stories with empathy, wit and wisdom.
