Anne Washburn’s award-winning, imaginative dark comedy propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future. Post-apocalypse, a group of survivors cling to normalcy by trying to piece together the plot of an iconic The Simpsons episode entirely from memory. Fast forward to 7 years later, and the episode and other snippets of pop culture have become live entertainment for a nostalgic populace. Jump to 75 years later, and all have been elevated to the myth and legend of a new society. Mr. Burns is a fascinating exploration of the intersection of pop culture and high art, and a dynamic paean to live theater itself.
