Now, the Playhouse is giving love back with its Eighth Annual Binge Free Festival, five weeks of free performances, workshops, and music in Santa Monica's ONLY fringe festival. The BFF's primary focus is on Santa Monica and Los Angeles-based artists, but there will be exciting international artists on view as well.
Why Worry? Jews R 2 Much Fun! world premiere engagement of a new comedy, written by Jerry Mayer and directed by Chris DeCarlo, has been announced at Santa Monica Playhouse.
Fifty years ago this month, Evelyn Rudie and Chris De Carlo assumed their posts as Co-Artistic Directors of Santa Monica Playhouse. Under their stewardship, the sixty-three-year-old theatre has become a treasured cultural institution in the beachside community.
Kathy and Stanley are deeply in love. They want to get married. Stanley is Jewish, Kathy's a Catholic. Interfaith marriages happen all the time in America. But Kathy's father Chris considers Stanley's father Marv to be a hated, sworn enemy and has felt this way for many years. Kathy and Stanley's families are to be united in matrimony. In order to prevent Chris' hate from derailing their happiness, they devise a plan. Stanley's family, aided by Kathy's mother Mary, are about to give Chris a very special education. Hilarity ensues. Chris will ultimately have to deal with the question Why Be an Uptight Anti-Semite? Jews R 2 Much Fun.

Told through the bold perspective of a vivacious drag queen named Tanvi, Naturally Tan follows Tanya Thomas' desperation to fit in as a minority in Singapore and her search for acceptance in America. Fueled by assimilation pains, Tanya delves into the heart of colorism that plagues the Asian diaspora, the complexities of racial identity, and the consequences of damaging beauty standards. Will Tanya hide behind her insecurities forever or will she embody her worth as a woman of color, mother, and artist?
I Have Too Many Feelings. A new show. A Binge Free Festival selection, written and performed by Bethany Vee and directed and developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson will play Santa Monica Playhouse, beginning Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.
Binge Free Festival, the festival of free theatre performances based at Santa Monica Playhouse, has just added two more events to the festival line-up. These will be virtual, i.e. online. Both events are free of charge.

The Book That Won't Close: Confessions of a Love Addict will be performed in front of live audiences at Broadwater Black Box. It will also be livestreamed, so there will be that option for online audiences as well.
Sonia Jackson's one-woman show is a hilarious play on familiar refrains like “I don't care who started it!” “Because I said so!” and “Not while you're living under my roof!” Tackling topics like parenting and the exasperations of motherhood, Jackson's relatable characters range from wacky to wise.
