This work from VERDI's middle period tells of the cruel fates and bloody end of the daughter of a Spanish Marquis, Leonora; a descendant of the royal family of the Inca Empire, Don Alvaro; and Leonora's brother, Don Carlo. The staging by Emilio SAGI, from Spain, brings the action into the 20th century. The focus on the comical figures Preziosilla and Fra Melitone is carefully planned to create a contrast with the dark storyline.

After an interlude of 8 years, this opera will be staged at the NNTT with soloists active all over Europe such as Iano TAMAR, Zoran TODOROVICH and Marco di FELICE. Ketevan KEMOKILIDZE, who sang the title role in Carmen in January 2014 to great acclaim, will play Preziosilla. José Luis GOMEZ will be conducting.
