Operetta burlesca is “the story of Pietro, a boy from provincial Southern Italy, born a girl in the shadow of Vesuvius, who speaks in falsetto and has the wrong body and a passionate soul, influenced by the volcano”.
Emma Dante tells of the South, diversity and marginalisation, a physicality which is “wrong” and very overwhelming, with an ability to tell stories which goes way beyond words alone.
