Consenting Bodies Reading Series Begins At Rec Room

Responding to the events of the past few years, Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company (MU) is proud to present CONSENTING BODIES, a series of play readings addressing consent, boundaries, and relationships in the modern era. Curated by Co-Literary Manager Bree Bridger, the series aims to spark a conversation around the subject of consent with guided discussions following each reading.

The two-day event will feature a series of three play readings from female playwrights all addressing the questions: 'What does consent mean for us?' and 'How does consent influence our relationships?' "We've noticed something becoming very clear in the wake of the #MeToo and #NotInOurHouse conversation: what consent is - and what is not - doesn't seem very clear to a lot of people," Bridger said about her inspiration for the series. "By highlighting the works of playwrights exploring matters of consent and violations of our autonomy in our romantic, sexual, and platonic relationships, Mildred's Umbrella has an opportunity to contribute to this conversation."

CONSENTING BODIES consists of: BULLY by Amina Henry, THE MORNING AFTER by Ericah Saleh, and KRAV MAGA PLAY by Brandy N. Carie, each of which will be followed by talk back with the actors and director. The series runs January 12-13, 2019 at Rec Room, in the heart of downtown Houston, with a reception on the closing Sunday. Tickets are pay-what-you-can and include an invitation to the closing reception. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mildredsumbrella.com.
