Oil In The Alley And The Fresh Preps Play An Intimate Show Presented By Kumu Kahua Theatre As Part Of Its Dark Night Series

OIL IN THE ALLEY is a unique music act which features original rock music mixed with polished improvisational humor. In performance, Sean T.C O'Malley and R. Kevin Garcia Doyle are always in character; there is no "improviser host" persona asking for suggestions. Instead, the rockers interact with their megafans and take inspiration from clothing, turns of phrase, and anything else to create completely new lyrics to original rock songs as if they were "classic" hits from their heyday.

Oil in the Alley's live album "Sacred Snail" was nominated for a N? Hoku Award for Best Comedy Album of the Year in 2016. The band has played festivals and venues in New York City, Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Hollywood. Locally, they've performed at The Republik, The Dragon Upstairs, Downbeat Lounge, The Venue, The Crossroads at Hawaiian Brian's, the Hawai'i Book and Music Festival Mainstage, the O'ahu Fringe Festival, The Improvaganza Festival of Improv, Mark's Garage, Kumu Kahua Theatre, LaughTrack Theatre, The Station, M?noa Gardens, Anna O'Brien's, KTUH's Monday Night Live, and Kapi'olani Community College.

Oil in the Alley is on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo, and Soundcloud.

Opening act THE FRESH PREPS are a musical collaboration between two ambitious street performing songwriters from Mililani, Hawaii, consisting of Joshua Stephens and Daniel Lyons. Together they are a song-creating machine specializing in well-polished, high energy performances.

Kumu Kahua Theatre's Dark Night Series was created to offer other theatre groups, playwrights, and performance artists the opportunity to present their work to the community. This series is presented during dark nights, which are evenings when Kumu Kahua's regular season shows are not being performed. To be part of the Dark Night Series artists must submit a proposal, which is reviewed by the Board of Directors of Kumu Kahua. From these proposals, projects are chosen that Kumu Kahua feels will promote the development of the theatrical arts and benefit local artists. Kumu Kahua sees this as another way to enhance and enrich the cultural diversity and artistic climate of Honolulu.
