Review: ELF at Broadway Palm is Fun and Festive!

Broadway Palm's musical production of ELF brings to life an iconic Christmas story that many people know and love in a very fun and charismatic way. This show has all the aspects from the story of ELF that you could ever want in a musical version, and so much more.

Chris Duir played Buddy, and I don't think a more perfect actor could have played the part. From Buddy's "happy all the time" spirit to his unabashed love for Christmas, and of course his singing and dancing, Duir absolutely nailed it. He most definitely brought Buddy's bright personality to the Broadway Palm stage, and it was a joy to see.

Ilana Gabrielle played Jovie, Buddy's love interest in ELF, and I enjoyed her character's evolution from a bit more cynical to hopeful. Her "Never Fall In Love (With An Elf)" was both funny and a bit bittersweet, as the audience feels for her, and her voice is fantastic.

The Hobbs family members, Walter (Christopher Russell), Emily (Molly Samson), and Michael (Nicholas Salerno at my performance), all were excellent in their roles as well. Walter grows a lot emotionally throughout ELF, and Russell executed this very well. I also liked seeing Walter's relationships with Emily and Michael change as Buddy becomes a part of their family.

Santa was played by Victor Legarreta and Mrs. Claus by Kelly Legarreta, and it was very fun to see this real-life couple play an on-stage couple. I loved all the current and local jokes that were made by Santa, including ones about romaine lettuce and a new Krispy Kreme that just opened in Fort Myers. Those little touches unique to the area and current times made a great impact in the show being even more special.

John White designed the costumes for Broadway Palm's ELF, and I thoroughly appreciated the creativity he used, especially for the ensemble's "elf" costumes in the beginning of the show, as well as the more well-known costumes like Buddy's.

If you're looking for something fun and family-friendly to do this holiday season, definitely check out ELF at Broadway Palm. With catchy song and dance numbers, a fantastic and fun story, and a cast of wonderful performers, it is not a show to be missed!

ELF is playing at Broadway Palm now through December 25. Performances are Wednesday through Sunday, with select matinees.
