Preparation
Prepare 16-32 bars of an up-tempo and a ballad (classic musical theatre pieces preferred) and a one minute comic monologue.

Bring sheet music in your key- an accompanist will be provided. No tapes or CDs permitted.

Bring a non-returnable headshot and resume.

(18-25) - innocent, niave “hometown” girl who wants to be a Broadway star

DICK
(18-25) - young sailor who wants to be a songwriter

JOAN
(25-45) - tough-as-nails chorus girl who’s been around

LUCKY
(25-45) - a sailor who’s been around, Dick’s pal

MONA KENT
(40-55) - leading lady who’s very much in control

HENNESEY / THE CAPTAIN
(40-55) - Hennesey is the Stage Manager in Act I /The Captain is Mona’s love interest in Act II

BETTY JEAN
Betty Jean is the self-anointed clown of the group, always vying for attention from her best friend Cindy Lou. Her hair is red/auburn. (Alto with strong low range D3 – E5.)

CINDY LOU
Cindy Lou is the bad girl of the group. It seems that things always go her way, making Betty Jean crazy. (Mezzo Soprano with belt– E3 – F5 sings lead on many songs.)

MISSY
Always the over-achiever of the group, Missy is the one to cover for mistakes and is always ready to jump in and save the day. She has been best friends with Suzy since elementary school. (Soprano with wide range and very high vocals G3 – A5.)

SUZY
Gum-chewing Suzy is happy-go-lucky, a little giddy and a little silly. She finds great pleasure in everything she does; the sillier it is, the more fun she finds it. Her best friend is Missy. (Mezzo Alto with a sweet, soulful sound and big belts G3 – E5.)
