BREAKDOWN

WINESDAY - THE MUSICAL AND WINE TASTING

SYNOPSIS: A wine-themed musical paired with wine tastings for the audience, WINESDAY is the perfect grape escape from our batsh*t world. When these five wine-swilling women get together every Wednesday night, they’re theoretically meeting for a book club or a yoga class, but really they just want to drink wine and talk about their lives. Imagine cabaret meeting cabernet—or Sex and the City when they no longer feel like leaving the couch. Get ready to pass the bottle and make some pour decisions because with these ladies you will definitely love the wine you’re with!

SEEKING:

Note: All of the female identifying characters need to be strong singers with great comedic timing.

WINTER – Female Identifying. Mid-Forties. Soprano with pop belt. G3-A6. She’s a creative and talented writer, who could go far in life if she weren’t such a pushover. She’s gullible and flighty with a Bohemian spirit. As the host of the Wednesday night gatherings with her friends she’s kept busy serving a LOT of wine. She’s full-bodied, with herbal undertones, a complex bouquet and a buttery finish.

MOLLY – Female Identifying. Late-Thirties. Bright soprano. A4-F5. She’s single and afraid she always will be, which makes her constantly focused on men. Perky, cute, talkative and a bit bossy, she is prone to obsessing over things. She’s a good friend who will obsess over your things too, but definitely won’t forget to obsess over her own things. She is on-the-nose, jammy, and fruit forward – a bright, sweet, wine-in-a-box type of blend.

JESS – Female Identifying. Mid/Late-Thirties. Mezzo with a pop/folk sound. E3-E5. Ability to play the fiddle is a bonus. Smart, sarcastic, politically-minded, with a cutting wit. She has a new cause almost daily, but is always passionate about the fight – including her refusal to get married due to the patriarchal history of the institution. She’s angular and extra-dry, but slightly nutty with hints of citrus.

SAMMIE – Female Identifying. Early Forties. Alto with power. E3-D5. Rumor has it she’s perfect. She’s content in her stable life, hyper-organized, married to her high school sweetheart with two perfect young kids and a successful career (although no one can figure out what she actually does.) She’s easily annoyed, but only when people are being annoying. She is crisp, clean, steely, and refined with a mature, well-balanced structure.

VANESSA – Female Identifying. Early Forties. Low, expressive alto. E3-C5. A wealthy, eccentric world-traveler, not grounded in reality. She and her wife Chiara have dined out all over the world, but she’s just as happy to hang out at home with her dog. She is non-judgmental, friendly and fully supportive of all of your terrible ideas. She is bold, spicy, oaky, and smoky, but with a rich and smooth velvety finish that always goes down well.

THE WINE STEWARD – Male Identifying. Thirties. The host of the evening, who interacts and ad-libs with the audience with humor and charm – and eventually enters the show. If he were more ambitious, he’d be a Sommelier, but clearly, he isn’t. His reactions are priceless, but almost never seen by the other characters. Physical comedy and some improv experience a plus.
