If you are unable or do not wish to attend the in-person audition, you may submit two brief cuts, one up-tempo and one ballad (that shows range) of a Musical Theater song in the style of either show to MHCasting@TheWick.org


PREPARATION

Please prepare two brief cuts, one up-tempo and one ballad (that shows range), of a Musical Theater song in the style of either show. Jerry Herman or Rodgers and Hammerstein preferred. If you are submitting / auditioning for a specific role we encourage you to sing selections from either MILK AND HONEY or CINDERELLA for that specific role.

MILK and HONEY

RUTH STEIN: 45 to 60 years of age. Widow from Cleveland visiting Israel on a tour. Content in her widowhood until she meets Phil in Jerusalem. SOPRANO: B3 – A5

PHIL ARKIN: 45 - 60 years of age. Married, American businessman from Baltimore in the construction business visiting his daughter Barbara and Son-In-Law David in Israel. TENOR: A2 – F#4

CLARA WEISS: 45- to 65 years of age. Widow from America and leader of the tour of widows from the United States. Yente, matchmaker type. Comedic. ALTO: F3 – C5

BARBARA: 25 to 35 years of age. Phil Arkin’s daughter and husband to David. Lives with David on a farm in the Negev. Not accustomed to farm life and misses life back in America. Vocal Range: B3- A5

DAVID: 25 to 35 years of age. Husband to Barbara. Loves Israel, the land, the people, the farm and has no desire to be anywhere else. Vocal Range: D3 – F4

ADI: 25 to 35 years of age. An Israeli farmer that yearns for a better life. Dreams of going to the United States where “all the streets are air conditioned.” Procrastinates marrying Zipporah even though she is carrying his child. He likes his freedom more than being tied down. Vocal range: E2 – C4

ZIPPORAH: 25 to 35 years of age. Younger than Adi. A hardworking Israeli woman. Proud of her heritage and her new country. Vocal range: B3 – A5

MR. HOROWITZ: 55 to 65 years of age. A “little man.” Quiet, polite. Lives in Jerusalem. A widower in the diamond business. Vocal Range: G2 – D3

THE WIDOWS: Mrs. Weinstein, Mrs. Pearlman, Mrs. Segal, Mrs. Strauss, Mrs. Kessler, and Mrs. Breslin. Various types ranging in age from 45 to 65 years of age. Visiting Israel on a tour from the United States. VOCAL RANGES: G3 – C5

ENSEMBLE: Various types and ages for the following roles: Hotel Porter, Policeman, Fruit Vendor, Cantor, Waiter Tour Guide, and Yeminite Boy plus others. Strong singers / dancers.

RODGER and HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA

ELLA: 20 to 25 years of age. Lives with her stepmother and stepsisters who treat her like a servant girl ever since the death of her father. She is sweet, demure, pretty, and dreams of a better life. VOCAL RANGE: B3 – A5

TOPHER: 20 to 30 years of age. The handsome Prince of the Kingdom. His parents have died and he is advised by the nefarious Lord Chancellor Sebastian. VOCAL RANGE: A2-F4

SEBASTIAN: The Lord Chancellor of the Kingdom. A duplicitous man of undetermined age. A schemer. Not to be trusted. VOCAL RANGE: E2 -C4

MARIE: 30 to 50 years of age. Known as “Crazy Marie”, lives in the forest and collects things people discard. She becomes Ella’s Fairy Godmother and display’s magic powers. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – D5

MADAME: 40 to 60 years of age. Ella’s Stepmother. An unpleasant woman who only thinks of the welfare of her two daughters, Charlotte and Gabrielle. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – D5

CHARLOTTE: 20 to 30 years old. One of Ella’s two stepsisters. Charlotte is demanding and selfish. She takes after her mother, Madame, in every way. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – D5

GABRIELLE: 20 to 30 years old. The other of Ella’s two stepsisters. Gabrielle is the kind and thoughtful stepsister. She becomes Ella’s ally and falls in love with Jean-Michel, the revolutionary and friend of Ella’s. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – D5

JEAN-MICHEL: 25 to 35 years old. Handsome revolutionary who is good in heart and in deed. Fights for the rights of the people. Friend of Ella’s and winner of Gabrielle’s affection. VOCAL RANGE: E2 – C4

LORD PINKLETON: 30 to 60 years of age. Henchman to Lord Chancellor Sebastian. A real “yes” man. VOCAL RANGE: E2 – C4

ENSEMBLE: Various types and ages for all other roles, townspeople, etc. Strong singers and dancers.

Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.

Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:

- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Palm Beach County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:

Holding/Audition room information:

The audition room is 2,500 square feet and can accommodate no more than 25 individuals at a time.

The holding room is 25,000 square feet and can accommodate no more than 694 individuals at a time.
