BREAKDOWN

CASTING NOTE
Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s production of WEST SIDE STORY is taking a fresh look at this beloved classic, with particular focus on authenticity in ethnicity, cultural identity and age.
The choreography will also take a grittier, visceral approach, integrating styles of hip-hop and street dancing with very strong contemporary jazz technique.

ANYBODYS: Female /White/ Late teens to 20.
A tough, hardened tomboy, desperate to be accepted by the Jets. Though tolerated by the guys, she’s still the brunt of their jibes. Nonetheless, she still shows heart beneath the hardened exterior. Speaking role. Good singer and a very strong dancer.

ACTION: Male /White/teens-early 20’s
The most hot headed of the Jets gang. Always ready for a fight.
