Breakdown
[TWIST] Looking for adorable 9-13 year old singer who must be able to tap well and act. Gymnastic ability is a plus. Twist is the orphan son of a white mother and a black father who is searching for his identity and his family. LEAD [DELLA] 25-35, must be a fierce singer and strong actress with a powerful pop/r&b voice. She is the moral compass of the story, sacrificing herself to help young Twist find a better life. Star making vehicle LEAD [BOSTON] 32-42; African American song and dance man working in New Orleans. Great singer and dancer; especially tap. After his performing partner is murdered, he opens a speakeasy during Prohibition, using young boys to sell liquor for him. He is always on the lookout for easy money, even if his methods aren’t always legal or moral. LEAD [ROOSEVELT KING] 25-35- African American song and dance man. Must be an incredible tap dancer with gymnastic skills and a good voice. He is Twist's father. [ANGELA THATCHER] 25-30 Caucasian. Must be strong soulful singer/actress. She embodies the rebel who is also the pinnacle of high society. She is Twist's mother [LUCIUS THATCHER] 35-45 powerful tenor. Twist's uncle who is trying to steal his inheritance and keep secret his identity. He is the Devil. LEAD [MR. PRUDHOMME] 50-65 Caucasian. Song and dance man and terrific actor. He is the legal advisor to the Thatcher Family, a great lover of the arts and the key to the discovery of Twists' identity. [CRAZAH CHESTERFIELD] Male, 40-50; any ethnicity. Strong singer/actor who moves well. He is an undertaker and a shady opportunist who is more than happy to exploit the bereaved. LEAD. [MISS COTTON] 38-50; Caucasian. Strong singer/actress who moves well. She runs the orphanage with an iron fist. The only thing she seems to enjoy is a glass of gin. [POTLATCH] 45-60, any ethnicity. Strong voice and dance skills a must. The greedy hypocrite with a comedic streak, who runs the orphanage. [PISTOL] 10-14 years old; any ethnicity. Strong singer/dancer especially tap. He is the leader of the Boston Boys gang. [YANCY] 13-15 years old; any ethnicity. Strong singer and dancer; especially tap. He is the bully of the orphanage.
