THE PHLEBOTOMIST
(US Premiere)
Writer: Ella Road
Director: Tracy Brigden
Casting Director: Jessi Blue Gormezano
First Rehearsal: June 22, 2020 (Weekday Rehearsals in the Evening)
Preview: July 16, 2020
Opening: July 17, 2020
Closing: August 1, 2020
In a world where health, wealth and happiness depend on one single genetic test — dictating everything from credit rating to dating prospects — phlebotomy reigns supreme. But how far will people go to beat the system? Ella Road’s provocative first play forces us to question the value we place on one another, whether knowledge really is power, and if love truly can conquer all.
Thrown Stone is casting the following roles:
Bea: F (20s-30s, from the city) Any ethnicity. A good egg, kind, sweet, fun, hard worker – a rule-follower, until she’s not. Bea has more ambition and grit than it seems at first meeting.
Aaron: M (20s-30s, from the country) Any ethnicity. Socially confident, likes his drink, comes from a good family and has the privilege and laziness to prove it. A true romantic. Descendent of Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Char: F (20s-30s, from the city) Any ethnicity. Bea’s bestie, more outspoken, brash, and direct than Bea. Smart, strong, clear-eyed.
David: M (50s/60s, from anywhere) Any ethnicity. The senior porter in the hospital where Bea works. Kindly, honest, from a more polite and genteel generation – he does a strange bow whenever he leaves the room. Knows more than he lets on.
All actors must have facility with a variety of British dialects. All actors will be “as cast” and potentially play other roles onstage or in the video/audio interludes as needed.
