Coalhouse Walker Jr. (African-American, 25-35) Passionate, charismatic, confident, sexy, stubborn, driven. Electrifying baritone with a strong top range (Ab-G with a sustained high F#)

Sarah (African-American, 18-27) naive, intense, charming, quietly beautiful, deep reserves of emotion waiting to be tapped. Thrilling lyric soprano (low G# - high F# on staff)

Mother (Caucasian, 30’s) a product of her era who blossoms into a modern woman as the play progresses. Compassionate, loving, intelligent and optimistic with a surprising core of inner strength. Riveting soprano belt (low G-high Eb on staff)

Father (Caucasian, 35-42) cautious, correct, resistant to the changes that are roiling his world. Loves his family deeply, but at a loss to grow with them into the new century. Baritone (B to E on staff)

Tateh (Eastern European immigrant, 30’s) highly intelligent, ambitious, creative, kind...has come to these shores to seek a better life for himself and his beloved daughter. Slight accent. Expressive tenor (Db to high F#)

Younger Brother/Ensemble (Caucasian, 20-25) a passionate and reckless anarchist, intense, hi-strung, bursting with youthful zeal Tenor/baritone with a strong top range (B to high F#)

Our Town

Director: Hunter Foster

Rehearsals: July 2, 2018 – July 17, 2018

Previews: July 18 & July 19, 2018 Opens: July 20, 2018

Closes: August 4, 2018

The Stage Manager: (30s-60s) Male or Female. The host of the play, and an omniscient narrator. Must have a folksy communication style. He/She interacts with both the world of the audience and the world of the play’s characters. He/She is friendly, down to earth but not emotionally involved with the town. Matter of fact and well informed. All ethnicities.

George Gibbs: (20s) A decent, upstanding young man. High School baseball star. Dr. and Mrs. Gibbs’s son. All-American boy, sincere, agreeable, polite, respectful and decent. A loving person - but not very good at expressing those emotions - and perfectly happy to stay on the farm. All ethnicities.

Emily Webb: (20s) An excellent student, confident and forthright. Mr. and Mrs. Webb’s daughter. George’s neighbor, fiancée and then wife. Bright, articulate, conscientious and vivacious person who shares some of her mother’s anxious nature. All ethnicities.

Doc Gibbs: (40-60s) George’s father and the town doctor. Loving father and kind husband. Well-liked, knowledgeable and mindful. Civil War expert. Knows just about everything about everybody in town. All ethnicities.

Mrs. Gibbs: (40s-60s) George’s Mother. Enduring, justly and appropriate. Calm, appreciative and caring mother to her children and wife to Dr. Gibbs. Although content in Grover’s Corner she still desires to see Paris. Suggests the importance of seizing the opportunities life presents, rather than waiting for things to happen. All ethnicities.

Mr. Webb: (40s-60s) Emily’s loving father and a caring husband, the publisher and editor of the local paper, the Grover’s Corners Sentinel. Good sense of humor. Kindly, demonstrative and sympathetic. All ethnicities.

Mrs. Webb: (40-60s) Emily’s mother and Mr. Webb’s wife. No nonsense kind of person - innocent, caring, a little coarse-around-the-edges, somewhat anxious, hardworking and tolerant.

Mrs. Soames: (30s-50s) Gossipy, a chatterbox, a bit small-minded but a curious woman who sings in the choir, along with Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Gibbs.

Simon Stimson: (30s-50s) Male or female choir director. Alcoholic who is the subject of gossip in Grover’s Corners.

Godspell (All actors will likely rep in RAGTIME)

Director: Sara Brians Choreographer: TBD Musical Director: TBD

Rehearsals: June 26, 2018

Previews: July 12 & July 13, 2018 Opens: July 14, 2018

SEEKING ALL ETHNICITIES.

Jesus: 25-35. Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.

Vocal range top: G5

Vocal range bottom: D4

John the Baptist/Judas: 25-35. He has attributes of both Biblical figures: He is both Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way.. He is the most serious and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must still possess a good sense of physical comedy. Should have an ear for harmonies

Vocal range top: G5

Vocal range bottom: C4

Jeffrey: 25-35. Very high energy, impish and playful. (Tenor-falsetto high D above staff)

Lamar: 25-35. Not the brightest in the bunch, he is a little slow on the uptake. There is a great sweetness and innocence about him. Because he sings, All Good Gifts, he must be a very good singer. (Tenor-high A)

Vocal range top: F#5

Vocal range bottom: B3

Herb: 25-35. The comedian, the class clown. This is also the role that sings the least, so it is wise for this actor to be a comedian rather than a vocalist. (Baritone, should have an ear for harmonies)

Robin: 25-35. A bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. She is the first of the group to commit to following Jesus in the song, Day by Day. (Alto or Mezzo)

Vocal range top: A4

Vocal range bottom: C4

Joanne: 25-35. The confident one, the show-off. The first to volunteer, sometimes jumps in before she really understands what’s going on. (Soprano-high A in Bless the Lord high C (violin note) in We Beseech Thee)

Vocal range top: E5

Vocal range bottom: B3

Peggy: 30-40. The shy one. Sometimes a little slow to get things, but when she does, she commits all the way. She has an Earth Mother kind of warmth to her. (Alto)

Sonia: 25-35. Strong personality and a bit cynical. Has more of a city feel than small town and embodies a strength and appeal in the manner of Mae West or Madonna. (Alto-low D below the staff)

Vocal range top: D5

Vocal range bottom: D3
