BREAKDOWN

In life, Colleen was a force of nature. Six months after her death, her sisters Maggie and Rosemary rent a beach house in Florida to scatter her ashes, only to find themselves and their respective partners staring down a hurricane. As the strong winds and rain bands begin, strange encounters with wildlife signal something more is going on. Filled with humor and heart, The Wake explores grief, family, and America’s shifting cultural and environmental climates.

Seeking:

MAGGIE early 40s, female, American with Irish heritage. New Yorker now living in Florida, baby of the family, customer service representative for a coffee maker company. A little adrift, Maggie makes do, her pets are healthy and she’s paying her rent. She’s been around the block a few times, but in moments can be cute and cuddly as a raccoon.

DOYLE 40s-60s, male, any ethnicity. Born & raised in the less traveled parts of Florida. Maggie’s latest stray. He is shrewd, strongly built, and wears an eye patch and a long braid down his back. Looks like he’s often slept outdoors. Maybe reminiscent of an alligator.

ROSEMARY almost 50, female, American with Irish heritage. Maggie’s oldest sister, living in the suburban northeast, a wife and helicopter mother of two children. A worrier, a control freak, she has lost her way, but with the blind instinct of a sea turtle, she is trying to find her way back to shore.

ED late 40s, male, any ethnicity. Rosemary’s husband, mostly easy going. Mostly living under the surface, a jellyfish floating through this life until he stings you. Devoted father, everybody’s nice guy, an accountant for a fracking company, where he has done something he’s not proud of.
