Seeking (both roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted)):

Black:

African American man, 50-55. Ex-convict. Devout Christian who believes he is truly his brother’s keeper. Saves White from a suicide attempt, and brings him home to try to convince him to live. Driven by his faith, he seeks to save White by restoring his hope and destroying his nihilism. Black’s optimism and love for humanity is genuine. His stubborn compassion leads to a questioning spirit and an intense desire to save the fallen. The violence and desperation he has seen confirm his belief in his own salvation and his desperate need to help others. He engages in a debate about faith with White because he believes it is God’s will. Black has locked himself away from the poverty and desperation of his neighborhood and, through cooking, prayer and service, has attempted to create a sanctuary for fallen souls.

White:

Caucasian man, 50-55. Atheist. Professor. Believes life is without meaning, and has tried to commit suicide. His reading and learning reinforce this belief. He believes the Bible is a work of fiction, and rejects religion. Despises Black’s faith, and wants to escape the apartment, but is drawn into the debate. His overwhelming sense of nothingness has destroyed all hope and desire to live. He is an intellectual who questions everything and finds only despair. White is determined to end his life -- even if it means destroying Black’s faith in the process. He is filled with bitterness, and is seeking escape through his own death.
