BREAKDOWN

DR. RACHEL MILAN: Female/female identifying. 40’s-early 50’s. Any race/ethnicity. Professional. Sharp. Ethical. Creative. “Research scientist” is not just her job, it’s her identity. Constantly walks the tightrope between taking the time to do the research trials correctly, and pushing back against the investors who want it NOW, but not so much that they drop her project. She has varying degrees of success with this, but no matter what she is determined to do the research. Interested in people (she’s trying to help women!) but prefers them at a distance. Migraines. Always in her lab coat.

CALLIE YOUNG: Female/female identifying. 25-30. Any race/ethnicity. Bright. Likable. A total people person. Loves interviewing research volunteers, genuinely feels terrible when she can’t help them or offer them a place in the study. Has a ton of energy ---the kind you have when your life experience has shown you that if you just really go for what you want in a positive way, you will get it! Wants to help women NOW because the research is ready NOW. Often in her lab coat.

ANNE-ZORA: Female/female identifying. 20’s-50’s. Any race/ethnicity. All the women who interview for the study, from all walks of life, all played by one actor. Includes JEN, the first, and only, person in the play who sees RACHEL as a whole, brilliant, vulnerable person. Patient, empathetic, a great listener. She and Rachel connect almost instantly.
