Production will be rehearsed and performed in La Mirada, California (both are indoors) ECC Procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided. Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. PREPARATION

Dancers: Dancers should be dressed so that the lines/motions of the body are clearly visible (leotard, etc.). Bring ballet shoes & knee pads. Part of the audition may be in bare feet. Sheet music if you can sing.

BREAKDOWN


Eliza: 20-35. AAPI. Character identifies as Female. Alter ego of Tuptim and character in Tuptim's
version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. She is a slave who escapes the South for Canada. She is resourceful
and strong. Strong ballet technique and partnering experience preferred. The dancing is a stylized
ballet-based movement. A background in ballet and/or modern and jazz dance is recommended. Any
tumbling or gymnastics is also useful but not central to the dancing. Dancers should be convincing.
Singing a plus. Eliza will be in the ensemble as well.

Angel George: 20-35. AAPI. Character identifies as Male. Angel George is Eliza's guardian during her
escape. Strong ballet technique and partnering experience preferred. The dancing is a stylized ballet
based movement. A background in ballet and/or modern and jazz dance is recommended. Any
tumbling or gymnastics is also useful but not central to the dancing. Dancers should be convincing.
Singing a plus. Angel George will be in the ensemble as well.

Simon of Legree: 20-35. AAPI. Character identifies as Male. In Tuptim’s story of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”,
he is the slave owner looking for Eliza. Strong classical ballet, modern or jazz background preferred.
Should be comfortable being lifted. The dancing is a stylized ballet based movement. A background in
ballet and/or modern and jazz dance is recommended. Any tumbling or gymnastics is also useful but
not central to the dancing. Dancers should be convincing. Singing a plus. Simon will be in the
ensemble as well.

Ensemble Dancers: 20-35. AAPI. There are characters who identify Male and Characters who
identify as Female. This includes the roles of Uncle Thomas, Little Eva, Topsy, the Three Dogs and others in cast. Strong ballet technique and partnering experience preferred. The dancing is a stylized
ballet based movement. A background in ballet and/or modern and jazz dance is recommended. Any
tumbling or gymnastics is also useful but not central to the dancing. Dancers should be convincing.
Singing a plus.

Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting
personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, etc.) will be required to show proof of COVID vaccination
prior to entry into the venue. (Anyone with a medical or religious exemption from vaccination, should
e-mail ahoeschen@actorsequity.org with Vaccination exemption in the subject line and attach proof
of exemption in advance of their appointment. Information provided will be kept confidential.) Anyone
with symptoms of COVID, flu, or any other infectious disease that can be transmitted by casual contact
should not attend the auditions.

Everyone participating in the auditions is encouraged to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical
mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas
are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
If the risk level for Los Angeles is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact
members with appointments at least 48 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them
know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with
appointments will be notified at least 24 hours in advance if the auditions must be postponed or
cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the
extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and
dressing rooms.

Holding/Audition room information:

The audition room can accommodate no more than 50 individuals at a time.

The audition room can accommodate no more than 16 dancers at a time.

The holding room can accommodate no more than 60 individuals at a time.
