BREAKDOWN

[SUSAN]
Female, 50’s-60’s; a tightly-wound, east coast mother to SARAH and grandmother to EVAN; both lovingly warm and startlingly direct.

[EVAN/JIM
] Male, 50’s-60’s; JIM, SARAH’s father, is a rational calming force in the family with a dry sense of humor; EVAN, SARAH’s son, is an inquisitive 3 year old fascinated by death.

[MAX]
Male, late 70’s-80’s; a twinkly-eyed Jewish father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a dashing man with a youthful heart; thoughtful but not sentimental.

Story line: As Sarah’s grandfather is nearing the end of his life, her precocious young son Evan is at the beginning of his. The Great Moment, an intensely personal, relatable family story is about how, at different ages, we find ourselves – or lose ourselves. Written by Anna Ziegler, this world premiere play is a funny and poetic meditation on beginnings and endings, birth and age, and the moments of transition that mark our passage from life to death.
