SEEKING

Equity actors and singers for various roles. Note: Surflight is Resident Stock and we are mainly seeking actors who are interested in committing to several consecutive shows when possible. We do not hold agent calls.

PREPARATION

Please bring Picture and resume and Music of your choice appropriate to the season. If auditioning for the plays only please bring a monologue of your choice. An accompanist will be provided.

Also bring clothes appropriate for movement or dance call including tap shoes if you tap.

JERRY MULLIGAN
Male, 20s. Very advanced ballet dancer who also has strong jazz ability. Attractive, masculine, and charismatic, Jerry is an American GI who chooses to stay in Paris to study painting and further his artistic aspirations. He is charming, spontaneous, and playful yet still a bit callow. Singing and acting experience a plus, but advanced ballet dancers will be considered regardless of prior singing/acting experience.

LISE DASSIN
Female, late teens to 20s. Very Advanced ballet dancer with pointe. Beautiful, ethereal, elegant and expressive, Singing and acting ability a plus, but all very advanced ballet dancers will be considered regardless of prior singing/acting experience.

ADAM HOCHBERG
Male, early 20s, Jewish, excellent actor and baritone singer, mover specifically basic tap. Adam is an American GI, wounded in the war, walks with a limp; classically trained composer who struggles to find his authentic voice as an artist.

HENRI BAUREL
Male, late 20s. Excellent actor and singer (tenor or baritenor). Mover with basic tap. Henri is the handsome son of wealthy Parisians. Light hearted, raised to assume his father’s position of power, Henri secretly longs to be a song and dance man.

MILO DAVENPORT
Female, 30. Excellent actor and singer (soprano/mix). Strong mover. Elegant American heiress and art partron who is attractive and bold; a free spirit who knows what she wants.

MADAME BAUREL
Female, 50s. Excellent actor with fantastic comic timing. Comfortable with some singing and dancing. Henri’s dry, uptight mother, obsessed with appearances, and while commonly self-righteous, she wants the best for her loved ones.

EMCEE:
Mid 20s up. An androgynous entertainer who embodies Berlin in the 1930’s. Seeking a superb actor/singer/dancer.

SALLY BOWLES:
Mid 20s – Mid 30s. English. A charming, slightly manic nightclub singer with a faint aura of desperation. Seeking an actress with very strong delt/mix and dances well.

CLIFF:
Mid 20s – Mid 30s. American: Harrisburg, PA. Cliff is a handsome writer, briefly infatuated with the decadent glamour of pre-war Germany. At his core is a naive and tender romantic. Seeking an actor who sings.

ERNST:
Late 20s – Late 30s. German. An amiable, fairly nondescript looking friend of Sally and Cliff. In many ways the last person one would expect to join the Nazi party making his transformation all the more chilling.

FRAULEIN KOST:
Late 20s – Late 30s. A blowsy, German prostitute working out of Fraulein Schneider’s boarding house. Seeking a comic actress who sings and dances very well. May double as a Kit Kat Girl.

FRAULEIN SCHNEIDER:
Mid 50s up. German. The owner of Sally and Cliff’s boarding house. A genteel, impoverished, middle-class woman, frightened by the Nazis, and ultimately too weak to stand against them. There is a hint of fading European glamour to her. Sings well.

HERR SCHULTZ:
Mid 50s up. German-Jewish. A warm, wise and funny middle-class man. He is helpless in the face of the quickly crumbling Germany around him. Actor who sings.

Emmett Forrest
Male, 20 to 30, B2 – A4. Handsome love interest to Elle. He is charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly.

Paulette
Female, 35 to 46, all physical types, A3 to A5. Powerhouse belter. Brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who Elle befriends.

Professor Callahan
Male, 45 to 55, A2 to F#4A pompous, sleezy and manipulative law professor at Harvard who is highly successful, but completely immoral.

Warner Huntington III
Male, 18 to 25, Eb3 – Ab4. Good-looking, shallow, pompous ex boyfriend to Elle.

Vivienne Kensington
Female 18 – 25, A3 to F5A smart, savvy, and uptight law student and Warner's fiancee who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Brooke Wyndam
Female 25-35, A3 to G5. An exercise video mogul who is also a former sorority girl. She is energetic and charismatic and in top physical shape.

Hercule Poirot — The famous Belgian detective. Precise, intelligent, with impeccable taste and style. Age 60+.

Monsieur Bouc — M. Bouc owns the Wagon Lit train service. He is a friend of M. Poirot and is aboard the Orient Express with him. He too is Belgian, middle-aged and of good humor.

Mary Debenham — An English beauty in her late 20s to mid-30s. She is a governess and a friend of Colonel Arbuthnot.

Hector MacQueen — A beleaguered, nervous American in his mid-20s to 30s who travels with Mr. Ratchett as his secretary.

Michel the Conductor / Head Waiter, 40s — Michel is the Wagon Lit conductor. He is a good-looking Frenchman, with a quiet, almost grave, sense of humor. Monsieur Bouc knows and trusts him. Doubles as a head waiter.

Princess Dragomiroff — Russian, in her 60 – 75. expensively dressed and heavily bejeweled. She has a strong Russian accent and an imperious manner.

Greta Ohlsson — Plain, middle-aged and Swedish. Her English is not good, but she speaks and understands French. Greta is a matron in a missionary school and a trained nurse.

Helen Hubbard — A self-privileged, outspoken American in her mid-50s who is flamboyant and often demanding.

Countess Andrenyi — A brilliantly beautiful young lady in her 20s who is dressed to the nines. She looks quite exotic, speaks a little English and has a charming Hungarian accent and a warm smile.

Colonel Arbuthnot — A Scotsman with a Scottish accent, mid-30s who served in India. He is honorable and upright, if a bit dim.

Samuel Ratchett — A brusque American business tycoon, 30s, who is mysteriously murdered by being stabbed a dozen times in his locked train compartment.
