This will be a diverse production. Actors from communities underrepresented in theatre are encouraged to attend.
Connecticut and Westchester actors encouraged to attend.

Music Theatre of Connecticut, who will begin its 36th season in September, is located in a beautiful theatre center in Norwalk, CT. The company has won numerous Best awards from both BroadwayWorld and Connecticut Critics' Circle Awards, including the prestigious Killen Award for Outstanding Contribution to Professional Theatre, joining Long Wharf, Hartford Stage and the Westport Playhouse.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a song in the style of the show. No rock or pop. An accompanist will be provided.

BREAKDOWN
In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screenwriter Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors, stumbles into her reclusive domain. Persuaded to work on Norma’s “masterpiece,” a film script that she believes will put her back in front of the cameras, Joe is seduced by her and her luxurious lifestyle. Joe becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic existence until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free with dramatic consequences.
Seeking:
Norma Desmond, ROLE CAST. 50’s, star quality, belt/mix G#3 – D5, Silent movie star who still lives in her isolated dream world of the past. Maturely attractive and stylized in dress and manner. Eccentric and jaded.
Joe Gillis, 30 – 35, Strong vocal, high baritone, not “pop” style young writer struggling to make his name in Hollywood. Not Hollywood in manner, but very Hollywood in looks. Tall, strikingly handsome, self-assured, yet with a manly rugged demeanor. An excellent singer with a natural film-style approach. Charming, with an opportunist-like quality.
Max von Mayerling, 50 to 60, baritone, Ex-film-director-turned-devoted-servant, with European accent. Norma's biggest fan and also her ex-husband.
Artie, 25 – 30, bari-tenor, Joe's friend, a generous, hardworking director's assistant. Clean cut professional, but fun. Betty's fiancé.
Betty Schaefer, 20 – 27, belt/mix, Artie's fiancée, a clean-cut, bright-looking girl, in her twenties. Sweet but sophisticated in a professional manner, a go-getter who wants to sincerely work with Joe…eventually falling for him.
Cecil B DeMille, 50 – 60, Famous film director. Baritone, Strong, imposing with a fatherly quality. Doubles as other roles.
Sheldrake/Ens, 45 – 60, baritenor, Boss of the studio, neurotic, stressed. Doubles in additional roles.
Manfred/Ens, 30 – 45, tenor, expensive tailor to the stars. Doubles in additional roles.
Morino/Ens, 35 - 40, Joe’s slimy agent, very “Hollywood”. Doubles in additional roles.
Heather/Ens, 25 – 35, belter, Eve Arden-ish, DeMille’s wise-crackin’ assistant. Doubles in additional roles.
Larissa/Ens, 25 – 35, belt/mix, everyone’s best friend, girl next door. Doubles in other roles.
Mary/Ens, 25 – 35, soprano/mix, starlet wanna-be, Marilyn Monroe-ish. Doubles in additional roles.
Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.
Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:
- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.
Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Fairfield County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.
We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:
Holding/Audition room information:
The audition room is 1600 square feet and can accommodate no more than 16 individuals at a time.
The holding room is 700 square feet and can accommodate no more than 19 individuals at a time.
