Seeking:

Truvy Jones:

(female, 40ish) Owner of the beauty shop where the play takes place. Truvy has a biting wit and her own original sense of panache. She’s proud of her shop and makes sure the ladies who enter her shop feel proud leaving. She will give away advice if she feels moved to do so—which is often especially if she has just read about in the latest women’s fashion magazine. Enjoys gossiping just as much if not more than swapping recipes.

Annelle Dupuy-Desoto:

(female, 19) Religious and a bit naïve with a heart of gold. Hard worker who wants to do the best she can, even if it’s not the most stylish. New in town and newly separated from her new husband, she aims to please while concealing her desperation.

Clairee Belcher:

(female, 66ish) Widow of former mayor, Clairee gets a lot out giving to the community and verbally sparring with Ousier. Very much a Southern lady, she is someone you can trust and feel comfortable talking to. She loves high school football, but feels as if she still needs to occupy her life with something significant ever since her husband passed away.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie:

(female, 25) Prettiest girl in town who is preparing to get married when the play opens. Her stubborn independence is one her most endearing qualities. Though she is diabetic, she carries on as if it can never slow her down. She dreams of a simple life filled with grandchildren on the back porch of the house down the road aways from where she grew up. Her favorite color will always be pink.

M’Lynn Eatenton:

(female, 50ish) Shelby’s mother, who is protective, of course, but is also enjoying being the mother of the bride. She is an intelligent and socially prominent career woman willing to sacrifice much of herself for her daughter. She, too, can reveal an overwhelming generosity or a wicked sense of humor depending upon the occasion.

Ousier Boudreaux:

(female, 66ish) Revels in complaining about life, as if it is her reason for being. Married a couple “worthless” men early in life and now tries to repress any amorous feelings toward the opposite sex. She is bombastic and caustic: a wonderful curmudgeon. She has a very nervous dog whose disposition probably has not at all been alleviated by Ousier’s own anxiety. She gladly and blindly adheres to the Southern feminine tradition of gardening and wearing funny looking hats.
