Breakdown

Cloe: Female, Caucasian, late 20’s – 30, attractive, in shape, strong singer who moves very well. Actress will play Cloe at 18 years old, and then mid 30’s. At age 18, running from misery, she takes her younger brother Norton and leaves home in hopes of pursuing a career as a dancer. Independent and assured. Vocal range: Alto with high belt: F3 – Db5. SEEKING NAME – will consider all.

Johnny – Male, Caucasian, early 30’s, nice-looking, strong singer with great pop/Broadway sound, who ideally also plays piano. (Will consider actors who do not play.) Actor will play Johnny in his early 20’s and then late 30’s. Originally a piano player for the strippers in the bar, Johnny becomes an extremely successful recording artist. Vocal range: High Baritone: Bb2 – Ab4. SEEKING NAME – will consider all.

Sybil Silverstein: Female, all ethnicities, 40’s – 50’s. Attractive, in great shape, very good singer who should be able to move very well. She is an ex-stripper who worked at the bar owned by Sammy Silverstein – and she ended up marrying him. Actress will play Sybil at age 40 and then at age 58, where she is now Sammy’s widow, but still as feisty as ever. Sybil is a true broad in the best sense of the word. Vocal range: Alto: F3 – Bb4. SEEKING NAME – will consider all.

Sammy Silverstein: Male, Caucasian, 60’s. Should sing nicely. Sammy is a cigar- smoking, gruff talking, card playing gambler, with a heart of gold. A real sweetheart of a man, loved by all. He changes the club from a sleazy strip joint into a spot where the neighborhood gathers to share their lives and losses, and to celebrate. Vocal range: open.

Young Norton: Male, Caucasian, 13 – 14 years old (would prefer to cast older to play that age). Cute, thin and on the shorter side. Cloe’s younger and impressionable brother. Seeking strong actor who sings well. Vocal range: 2nd tenor/High Baritone.

Adult Norton: Male, Caucasian, mid-late 20’s, nice looking, on the taller side and thin. Norton grows up to be an attorney. A bit of a nerd, and shy. He has had a crush on Lydia since he was a kid. Vocal range: Baritone: Bb2 – Eb4.

Lydia: Female, Latina, mid 20’s – early 30’s. Attractive to somewhat character. Good singer, who moves well. Funny. She originally tried out to be a dancer at the club, but had little if any talent. She stuck around and soon became Cloe’s number one gal, organized to a “t”, very outspoken and forever helpful with the business aspects of the club. Somehow she just can’t find a guy. She is forever the bridesmaid. Vocal range: Alto: G3 – B4.

Crystal: Female, Caucasian, legal 18 and up to play 16. Cute, with great energy. Should sing well and be a strong dancer. Cloe’s daughter, a modern day 16 year old, who has become a wonderful dancer like her mother but has other ambitions for her future. Vocal range: Alto: G#3 – Bb4.

Arnie: Male, Caucasian, late 40’s – 60, slim and character. Should sing well. We first meet Arnie when he’s in his late 40’s, and then later in his early 60’s. He has tried for years to be hip. Instead, he’s a joke a minute, too loud, a lousy dresser, but an all around good guy. Vocal range: Baritone: B2 – E4.

Tony & Rico: Male, Caucasian/Italian, late 20’s – early 30’s. (The Pachagalope Brothers) Two funny wanna-be thugs who are the sons of Sammy’s gambling buddy Papa Pachagalope. We first meet the brothers in their late teens, and then again in their early 30’s. They’re like rejects from “Saturday Night Fever” – open shirts, gold Italian horn necklaces, slicked back hair. Vocal Range: Bass-Baritone: F#2 – B3.

Lou: Male, all ethnicities, 40 – early 50’s. The bartender at the club who has observed all the changes over the years. Good singer who moves well. May double in ensemble. Vocal range: open.

Papa Pachagalope: Male, Caucasian/Italian, 40’s and up. Tony & Rico’s father. Speaks with thick Italian accent. A gambling friend of Sammy’s. Good singer who moves well. May double in ensemble. Vocal range: open.

Male Singers: All ethnicities, 20’s – 40’s. Strong singers who move well. Open on vocal ranges.

Female Singers: All ethnicities, 20’s – 40’s. Strong singers who move well. Open on vocal ranges.
