Breakdown
Rolly is a typical kid whose boring summer vacation turns into a terrific adventure when he stumbles on the past and ends up in 10th Century France. There he encounters Princess Aurora, a feisty 12 year old girl who longs to be a knight and travel the world. Aurora’s parents don’t let her leave the castle walls because of a secret curse that was put on her when she was born. Despite all their protection, Aurora pricks her finger on a spindle and the curse comes to pass – she sleeps for a thousand years. Rolly, back in the present, finds the sleeping Aurora and wakes her up. The two friends are reunited and Aurora gets to discover the world outside the castle at last! The MainStreet Theatre Company is in its 6th season of producing high-quality Theatre for Young Audiences productions at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga. The Lewis Family Playhouse is a 536 seat, state-of the-art proscenium theatre. We do not provide housing! We will provide a small travel stipend for those people commuting between 50 and 65 miles from the theatre. The play is available through Dramatic Publishing. ROLLY (Male – 20’s to play 12 year old boy) – 2nd tenor or lyric baritone B2 to D#4. A typical 5th grader who is more interested in computer games than in school. He is changed when he magically goes back in time to 10th Century France and meets Aurora. AURORA (Female, 20’s to play 12 year old girl) – lyric mezzo soprano A3 to E5 A feisty, smart, 12 year old girl who is frustrated by her overprotective parents, who happen to be a King and Queen in the age of Charlemagne. She longs to be a knight and go off on adventures. KING PEPIN/PETE (Male, middle aged) – Baritone. Actor will play both a king in 10th Century France (Aurora’s father) and an American (Rolly’s father) in the present. The King is overly protective of his only daughter and makes excuses to keep her inside the castle walls. The present day father thinks a fun vacation will show his under-achieving son that there’s more to the world than playing video games. Seeking actors under 6’ tall. The role of QUEEN MATHILDE/MATTIE has been cast
