"Truffaldino Says No" Casting Requirements
Everyone should be able to do Italian accents. We are ideally looking for an extremely physical cast, with either mask performance skills, or a strong enough instinct for physical articulation that they could learn it for the production. We are looking for a diverse group of performers with strong ensemble and classic comedy skills. Ideally, Truffaldino's family would be a mixed race family.

Arlecchino/Hal - Male - late 40s/early 50s - Truffaldino’s father; a servant in Pantalone’s house/a concierge at an inn. Acrobatic, e.g. can do summersaults.

Colombina/Kate - Female - late 40s - Truffaldino’s mother; a servant in Pantalone’s house/an assistant manager at an inn. Capable of acrobatics as well. Catlike.

Pantalone/Frank - Male - 50s or older - a miserly shop owner who lives in Venice/ a miserly permanent resident at the inn.

Isabella/Debbie - Female - late 20s/early 30s - Pantalone’s daughter/a waitress at the inn.

Il Dottore/Wiseman - Male - 40s or older - a learned doctor/an oddball resident at the inn.

"ENEMIES" character breakdown:
KATHERINE STOCKMANN – late 40s. Doctor, workaholic. After her father died, she left home for nearly twenty years, practicing throughout Latin America and Africa. She’s trying to become a more settled wife and mother following several brutal years abroad.

PETER STOCKMANN - mid-40s. Katherine’s younger brother. Affable and pragmatic, he’s become Mayor, making the town boom with industry. He’s taken on the family burdens since Katherine left, caring for their mother and their property.

JOSEPHINE STOCKMANN – 60s. Peter and Katherine’s mother. She used to be outdoorsy, adventurous, but the death of her husband, followed by her daughter’s departure, has taken its toll on her. An alcoholic, trapped in memory.

TOM – 40s. A teacher, becoming a homebody in mid-life. Madly in love with his wife, Katherine. They met while he was teaching abroad and he’s followed her from place to place, with a growing hope to settle in the States to raise their second child. He finally has his wish.

PETRA – 20. Katherine and Tom’s daughter. Smart, worldly, but unstable. She has a fraught relationship with her parents. Close, even in awe of them, but unable to be apart, she dropped out of college to live with them. She’s experiencing a delayed teenage rebellion and falls in love with Michael Hovstad, nearly ten years her senior.

MORTEN – 9. Katherine and Tom’s son – slight build, artistic, has a morbid imagination.

MICHAEL HOVSTAD – 30. A driven journalist who fancies himself a progressive. He’s recently moved to the expanding region. A relatively big fish in this pond, he’s already stoked much controversy and harasses the Mayor. He’s dating Petra, his motives for which are suspect.

RITA – late 20s. Peter’s assistant. Born and raised in Garfield County, she’s managed to put herself through school and find a good job. She feels she’s on the rise. Practical, sharp, fierce, loyal to a fault.

JUAN – early 30s. Rita’s older brother. Quiet in public, lives in the shadow of his younger sister. Used to truck, now in the gas industry, a job his sister helped him get. Now he’s living with her because rents became high. He’s suspicious, even jealous, of her relationship with Peter.

BRENT – 30s. A drifter, deeply cynical. A gas worker since he was old enough to get hired. Has lived all over the country, full of stories.

ENSEMBLE – (2M, 2F) Woman in 40s, Woman in 50s, Man in 40s, Man in 60s – able to play a variety of Townspeople, Town Council Members, Workers, and an EPA Representative.
