Local talent for SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL STARRING CATHY RIGBY. Please see breakdown. Contracts will be considered for all roles, except JoJo.
Preparation
Please sing something in the style of the show that best shows range and personality. Bring sheet music in correct key. A score will be provided if singing from the show. Please bring headshot and resume to the audition. Accompanist will be provided. NO a capella!

Breakdown
Non-Union will be seen, time permitting. The show will be playing at Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton from 2/6/15 to 2/22/15 and will then be transfering to Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center for two additional weekends from2/28/15 to 3/8/15.

The role of the CAT IN THE HAT will be played by Cathy Rigby.
JOJO – Male, 8-12 years old. A “Thinker”. He is the Mayor of Whoville’s son. Smart child with imagination, whose “Thinks” get him into a bit of trouble. Bright, creative, and inadvertently mischievous. He and the Cat take the journey through the show. Finds solace in his friendship with Horton. Strong actor/singer. Boy soprano with high D.
HORTON THE ELEPHANT – Male, 30-50 yrs old. He is a compassionate and gentle giant, rotund and appealing; a big-hearted, working-class guy who always tries to do the right thing for his friends. Imaginative, un-self-conscious… he believes in goodness. Commonly misunderstood because of his larger size. He is protective and loving of all creatures in the jungle. Must be a brilliant actor of great depth with a beautiful voice. Bari-tenor with low A to high F.
GERTRUDE McFUZZ – Female, 25-35 yrs old. Horton’s one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also self-conscious of her shortfalls. She changes from a nervous shy bird to one who can take responsibility for others. Strong and HONEST actress/singer with a lot of heart and impeccable comedic timing. Mezzo with low F# to high F.
MAYZIE LaBIRD – Female, 25-35 yrs old. The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle; Marilyn Monroe type physique. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life. Self-centered and vain, Mayzie never admits mistakes; a manipulator, she’s not all bad; a party girl/dancer and and outrageous flirt. Strong singer who dances/moves really well.
SOUR KANGAROO – Female, 25-45 yrs old. The leader of the jungle. She is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful. She’s really not sour; just has attitude, impatience and stirs up trouble with a bluesy, gospel voice. Strong rock/blues belter with huge presence. R&B riffing mezzo with high F.
GENERAL GENGHIS KHAN SCHMITZ – Male, 35-55 yrs old. A large imposing figure. A gruff, blustery, intimidating, kettle about to blow. He is proud and always thinks he is doing the right thing but is obviously misguided. Archetype: General Patton (yet a buffoon).
WICKERSHAM BROTHERS – Male trio, 20-30 yrs old. These are the male “teen dreams” who tease, play pranks, and make mischief and music hanging around the street corner. Ideally all three dance, vocalize in perfect harmony, and play physical jokes on everyone in the jungle. Doubles in ensemble. Must be great movers and be able to hold tight harmonies. Tumbling skills a plus. Tenor, Baritone, and Bass (with low E)
MAYOR OF WHOVILLE – Male, 30-50 yrs old. Strong character actor with a strong voice; he carries his office with confidence and charm. Doubles in ensemble.
MRS. MAYOR – Female, 30-50 yrs old. An ideal Mom; strong singer. She believes in good things happening to good people; trusts her husband. Great and subtle comedian. Doubles in ensemble.
BIRD GIRLS – Female trio; 25-35 yrs old. A jazzy, harmonizing, dancing group of three “Supreme”- like chicks who are too cool in the forest. Doubles in ensemble. Strong dancing/singing skills. Must move very well and be excellent story tellers. Sexy women, with a strong sense of self who all look different. All physical types that sing and dance/move very well and fit this description are encouraged to audition. Soprano (with F), soprano, and alto (with low F#).
THE GRINCH – Male, 30-50 yrs old. A Green-skinned dour philosopher who is down on happiness. Strong character man. Doubles in ensemble. Bass.
ENSEMBLE MEN – Males, 20-50 yrs old. Various characters in the Jungle of Nool and Citizens of Whoville. All vocal ranges needed, must move well; a few must be proficient and excellent dancers that sing. We are looking for performers of all types, ages, and ethnicities.
