KESA / THE WIFE / AN ACTRESS (mid 20s to early 40s; Mezzo/Belter, F3 to E5) KESA: “A beautiful, sensual monster.” Morito’s lover; they are meeting tonight for the final time. She is determined - by any means necessary - to end their affair and regain her honor. THE WIFE: A beautiful lounge singer with fading aspirations. Her marriage provides her a sense of stability and domesticity (even if that’s not what she truly wants.) AN ACTRESS: A former TV commercial starlet from Los Angeles; she has found her way to New York City following a world-shattering accident.
MORITO / THE HUSBAND / A CPA (mid 30s to early 50s; baritenor, A2 to G4 with falsetto to C5) MORITO: “A handsome predator.” Kesa’s lover; they are meeting tonight for the final time. He is determined - by any means necessary - to end their affair and regain his honor. THE HUSBAND: A taxi-cab mogul straight out of a New York pulp noir; his devotion to his wife is exceeded only by his desire to maintain their extravagant lifestyle.
