SEEKING
Equity actors for various roles in the upcoming 2019 Summer Season:
KING LEAR
THE TEMPEST
All roles are open (except where noted).
We are seeking male and female performers of all ages, genders and ethnicities to perform all roles, and performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds and gender identification are strongly encouraged to audition. Actors must move well, be physically fit and have the ability and a facility to play multiple distinctive characters. Singing, dancing, stage combat, and/or the ability to play an instrument is a plus, but not a requirement.
PREPARATION
Actors should prepare two Shakespearean monologues at least one of which should be comic (two minutes total) and should bring their headshots and résumés to the auditions.

The company is celebrating its nineteenth summer season of free outdoor theater in beautiful Congress Park in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY.
An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Shakespeare’s KING LEAR
directed by Wesley Broulik.
1st reh: July 1st Runs: July 23rd – August 3rd (6:00pm start time for all performances).
Seeking a diverse cast for a vibrant, outdoor production. (Unless noted- the roles are non-age or gender specific)
King Lear (cast)
Earl of Gloucester
Male, 50-65. A trusted advisor and friend to Lear. He is honest, but has been somewhat reckless in his youth, having Edmund as an illegitimate son. He mistakenly trusts Edmund rather than his older son, Edgar.
All Ethnicities.
Earl of Kent
Male, 40-60. Lear’s always faithful and devoted advisor. He will do anything for the king. He is honest, practical, and straight-forward. When banished by Lear he disguises himself and continues to serve.
All Ethnicities.
Edgar
Male, 25-35. Lear’s honest and compassionate legitimate son. He loves his father and will always do what is right. He disguises himself as the seemingly mad Poor Tom.
All Ethnicities.
Edmund
Male, 25-35. Lear’s illegitimate son. He hates his slightly older brother, Edgar, for being the inheritor of his father’s title and wealth. He schemes to destroy Edgar and his father. Always self-serving, he woos both Goneril and Regan and plays them against one another. In the end he repents.

Goneril
Lear’s eldest daughter. Female, 30-45. She is ambitious and will do anything to gain what she wants.

Regan
Lear’s second-eldest daughter. Female, 30-45. She is vicious and sadistic and ambitious and will do whatever it takes to destroy anyone who crosses her.

Cordelia
Lear’s youngest daughter. Female, 20-35. She loves her father, but has too much integrity to play his games. She has great moral strength.

Lear’s Fool
Male or Female, 30-60. A melancholy dedicated foil for Lear who loves him, but who will always tell him the truth.

Oswald
Male, 25-45. Servant to Goneril. He is a sycophant and a toady.

The Tempest Cast: There will be double and multi role casting.
Seeking a diverse cast for a theatrical and physically demanding outdoor production.

Character actors that move well and are musical are encouraged to audition.
PROSPERO — Former Duke of Milan, now a magician on a Mediterranean island.
MIRANDA — Prospero’s daughter.
ALONSO — King of Naples, respects Prosper
ARIEL — A spirit, servant to Prospero
CALIBAN — An inhabitant of the island, servant to Prospero
FERDINAND —Prince of Naples, Alonso’s son
ANTONIO — Duke of Milan and Prospero’s brother, hates and envies Prospero.
SEBASTIAN — Alonso’s brother, seeks to seize Alonzo’s throne.
TRINCULO — Servant to Alonso.
STEPHANO — Jester to Alonso.
GONZALO — Councilor to Alonso and friend to Prospero
