SEEKING
5 ensemble members for short play festival. Each actor will play multiple roles. Local hires preferred.
2 men, 3 women (age range: 20s-40s)
Actors of Middle Eastern heritage encouraged, all backgrounds welcome.
PREPARATION
You will be provided sides to prepare upon confirmation of your audition time. IF this is your first time auditioning for Golden Thread, in addition, please prepare a 2-minute contemporary monologue.

BREAKDOWN
The five ensemble members each will play multiple roles, in seven plays:
BRASS KNUCKLES by Yussef El Guindi, THE GRIEVANCE CLUB by Rendah Heywood, NOOR AND HADI GO TO HOGWARTS by Lameece Issaq, THE BASEMENT by Mustafa Kaymak, AN ECHO OF LAUGHTER by Betty Shamieh, IN SPENGLIC by Niku Sharei, THE BOOK OF MIMA by Naomi Wallace.
Roles include:
MAYSOON (20s, Middle Eastern, female): Wears a hijab and gets targeted for it but tries to practice self-control. Self-confident and self-nurturing, principled, smart, reasonable, protective, aggressive if provoked.
WOMAN (30s-40s, Middle Eastern, female): Intelligent, successful investment banker of Iraqi heritage, a candidate then new member of an anonymous, exclusive punishment club for high-earning individuals.
VOICE (30s-40s, female): Interviewer for an anonymous, exclusive, high-society punishment club. Never seen, only heard. Authoritative, direct, concise, somewhat compassionate.
NOOR (early 20s, Middle Eastern, female): A 10-year old Syrian girl surviving in her bombed-out house with her brother, sentimental and protective, in a wheelchair numb from the waist down.
HADI (early 20s, Middle Eastern, male): An 8-year old Syrian boy surviving with his sister in their bombed-out house, cynical and intelligent, his vision is severely impaired from the bombing two days ago.
LIEUTENANT MEHMET (early 40s, Middle Eastern, male): High-level lieutenant of a run-down military office in Turkey, in charge of torture. Commanding, gruff, self-serving.
SOLDIER (30s, Middle Eastern, male): Only soldier left in a run-down Turkish military office whose main job is the disposal of bodies. Dutiful, hard-working, capable of a conscience.
AYCA (early 20s, Middle Eastern, female): An investigative journalist interviewing the shifty Turkish lieutenant to solve the mystery of a missing girl. Beautiful, clever, resourceful, vengeful.
TEACHER (30s-40s, Middle Eastern, female): Palestinian teacher of English to young girls in Gaza, progressive, feminist, intelligent, cautious but bold.
HITLER (40s, Caucasian, male): Hitler in his heyday, dressed in full Nazi garb. Lives in his own space, laughs but never speaks.
KELLA (40s, Middle Eastern, female): Strong, structured, straightforward but inflexible manager of global company Globitron in the post-apocalyptic country of Spenglia in the year 2025.
SHELB (30s-40s, Middle Eastern, female): Sweet, cheerful, long-time employer at Globitron who trains Meetoo. Broken down by the job but doesn’t know it.
METOO (20s-30s, Middle Eastern, female): An everywoman, hard-working, loving single mother, new to this post-apocalyptic country, new employee of Globitron, reluctant about this job but needs money for her son’s impending surgery.
THE MISSILE (30s-40s, Non-Middle Eastern, male): A missile on its first and final flight over a small village in Yemen, confident, shares knowledge and pleasure with audience, must be good with language and nuance.
