SEEKING

Equity actor/singers for various roles for the opening production of the 2019-20 season - RAGTIME. Actors of color are STRONGLY encouraged to attend. Connecticut and Westchester talent a plus.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a song from the contemporary musical theatre canon that is shows a strong legit sound while also acting driven. Please bring a picture & resume, stapled together. A monitor will be provided. Total audition time should not exceed 2 minutes.

Present in the auditions will be Kevin Connors (director), Jim Schilling (MTC Managing Director) and Alex Mongillo (Administrative Manager)

OTHER DATES

RAGTIME rehearses September 12 - 26; Opens September 27, 2019 and runs Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm through October 13, 2019. All rehearsals and performances are at the theatre in Norwalk, CT. NYC actors' (who are cast) train travel via Metro North is paid by the theatre. Commute time is approx. 1hr 10 minutes one way.

Music Theatre of Connecticut, begnning its 33rd season in September, is located in a beautiful theatre center in Norwalk, CT. The company has won numerous Best awards and Connecticut Crtitics' Circle Award Nominations, including the prestigious Killen Award for Outstanding Contribution to Professional Theatre, joining Long Wharf, Hartford Stage and the Westport Playhouse.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Sarah: African-American female. Late teens-early 20’s (lyric soprano; range: low G# to high F# on staff); requires high belting

Mother: Anglo-American female. 30+ (lyric soprano; range: low G to high Eb on staff) gentle, compassionate, optimistic; requires high belting

Sarah’s Friend: African-American female. 25-30. (Gospel lyric-soprano or alto range: low G to stratosphere scat top note

Emma Goldman: Eastern European/Jewish Immigrant female/Anarchist. 40+, slight accent. (alto, range: low G# to Db on staff)

Evelyn Nesbit: Anglo-American female. Vaudevillian performer. 18-25 (belter/soprano, range: middle C to Db on staff) dancer preferred.

Coalhouse Walker, Jr: African-American male. 25-35 (baritone with strong top range; range: Ab to G, with a sustained high F#). Intense dance; pianist; proud, confident, and stubborn.

Father: Anglo-American male. 40+ (baritone; range: B to E on staff) cautious; resistant to change

Tateh: Eastern European/Jewish Immigrant male. 40+, slight accent (tenor; range: Db to high F#) intelligent, passionate, creative

Mother’s Younger Brother: Anglo-American male. 20-25+ (tenor/baritone with strong top range: B to high F#) passionate anarchist; intense and high-strung

Grandfather (Mother’s father)/Henry Ford/JP Morgan: Anglo-American male. 55+ (some “speak-sung” lyrics, baritone) gruff & outspoken.

Harry Houdini: Hungarian Immigrant male/Magician/body-builder. 30+ (tenor; range: mid. C to high G), doubles as Willie Conklin: Fireman, racist, an antagonist who leads vandalism on Coalhouse’s car. Anglo-American male

Booker T. Washington: African-American male, distinguished. 45+ (some “speak-sung” lyrics, baritone)
