Most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns. However limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.

Due to frequent and necessary interaction with members of the general public, performers, fellow employees and other individuals, successful candidates for employment are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they begin work and will be required to provide proof of vaccination. “Fully vaccinated” as defined by the CDC means that at least 14 days have passed following receipt of the final dose of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Additionally, COVID-19 boosters are required for eligible employees.
Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

The audition room can accommodate no more than 45 individuals at a time.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Diana Goodman: Female, 30-49. The matriarch of the family who is living with bi-polar disorder brought on by a traumatic event earlier in life. Witty and self-aware, but in all essence wants what is best for her family.
Dan Goodman: Male, 30-49. The patriarch of the family who despite his wife’s illness will go to any length to keep up the façade of the “perfect, loving family.” Tender, patient, and kind, a man who does what he thinks is best.
Natalie Goodman: Female, 16. Diana and Dan’s high school aged daughter who longs to no longer be invisible to her parents. Intelligent and aware of her circumstances and wants to lead a life that is “next to normal.”
Gabe Goodman: Male, 18. Diana and Dan’s son and Natalie’s older brother. Energetic, carefree, and charming. He knows that he is his mother’s favorite child and will go to any lengths to ensure that security.
Henry: Male, 17. Natalie’s high school boyfriend. A musician, goofy, and a self-proclaimed “loner and a bit of a stoner.” He is Natalie’s security and the most solid person in her life.
Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine: Male, 30-49. Two of Diana’s doctors (played by the same actor). Dr. Madden, a psychopharmacologist, and more traditional when it comes to treatment. Dr. Fine is Diana’s “rock star” and far more practical when it comes to Diana’s treatment and more willing to work with her and her family.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
SEYMOUR: 30s. A dorky plant aficionado secretly pining for his coworker Audrey. From humble beginnings, he plays the part of his own story’s underdog until he makes a Faustian bargain with a sentient sprout. His career and love life blossom as his morality deteriorates.
AUDREY: 30s. The human equivalent of an encouraging smile, Audrey is sincere, sincerely kind, and classically innocent. Because of her past, she believes she deserves no better than abuse at the hands of her current beau, but despite that, she still allows herself to dream about an idyllic, Donna Reid-esque future with Seymour.
MR. MUSHNIK: 50s-60s. Mr. Mushnik is a surly curmudgeon (and quite frankly, he comes by it fairly). He owns a failing plant shop in Skid Row and serves as a begrudging father figure to Seymour, who he took in as an orphan, and a much more willing patriarch to his other employee, Audrey. Despite being a desperate opportunist - and who could blame him - underneath his gruff exterior, he’s a softie.
ORIN: 30s. Look up the word “sadist” in the dictionary and you’ll find Orin’s photo. The manifestation of every person’s dentophobia. An abusive bully who would lust for himself if he met himself on the street. Audrey’s horrifyingly cruel boyfriend with an intensely intimate relationship with nitrous oxide.
THE PLANT: Ageless. A rapidly growing creeper with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. The plant is manipulative, brilliant, seductive, scary AF, and makes a solid point.
CRYSTAL, RONNETTE, and CHIFFON: 20s-30s. Participants in the story, the Greek Chorus of the story, the audience’s conduit to the story, these girls see all, hear all, and tolerate nothing. They’d laugh at their own jokes except they don’t have to ‘cause they’re legitimately funny and everybody else laughs for them.

NOTE: Please note that we are only seeking performers under the age of 16 for the role of Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. All other roles listed below that list an age 16 or under will be played by actors over the age of 16.
Willy Wonka / Candy Man: Male, 30-49. Enigmatic and charming, Mr. Wonka sets out on a mission to find the next great chocolatier, engaging in unusual methods…
Charlie Bucket: Any Gender, 8-12. Curious and courageous with a mind for invention. The only one of the Golden Ticket winners to be untouched by greed.
Grandpa Joe: Male, 50-89. A beacon of positivity. Grandpa Joe is the grandfather we all wish we had when we were Charlie's age. Caring, patient, sweet, and always reminds Charlie to look on the bright side. Shares Charlie’s imagination and sense of adventure.
Mrs. Bucket: Female, 30-49. Full of warmth and brightness, Mrs. Bucket supports her family and shares her love openly.
Augustus Gloop: Male, 16. Augustus can’t help himself when it comes to just about anything! Gluttonous and adorable.
Mrs. Gloop: Female, 35-49. Mrs. Gloop is Augustus's mother who has overindulged her son and proud of it. She accompanies Augustus on the tour of the factory.
Veruca Salt: Female, 15. Veruca is wealthy, class-conscious, and completely spoiled. Loves to show of her en pointe ballet skills (or lack thereof, depending). Greedy and swarthy.
Mr. Salt: Male, 35-49. Mr. Salt's solution to most problems is to buy his way out and loves to do so for his daughter, Veruca. He accompanies Veruca on the tour of the factory.
Violet Beauregarde: Female, 17. Gum chewer extraordinaire. Influencer and Queen of Pop- your next Tik Tok obsession. Vain and delightful.
Mr. Beauregarde: Male, 35-49. Mr. Beauregarde loves his role as stage dad, ready and willing to hold the phone for Violet’s next post. All about the money. He accompanies Violet on the tour of the factory.
Mike Teavee: Male, 14. TV junky and addicted to video games, the Internet, and any other mind numbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud, and obnoxious. Slothful and striking.
Ms. Teavee: Female, 35-49. Makes her own bathtub gin and loves her gun collection. She accompanies Mike on the tour of the factory.
Ensemble: All Genders, All Ages. Candy Store Patrons- Grabby and obnoxious. Charlie’s Other Grandparents- Sweet and aloof. TV Reporters- Factual and obtuse. OOMPA LOOMPAS!- Fabulous dancers and circus performers.
