Please prepare 2 contrasting monologues, 1 classical and 1 contemporary, not to exceed 3 minutes.

In addition to auditioning for specific roles in our 17/18 season productions of Picasso at the Lapin Agile and Holmes and Watson, we are also looking for Alley Theatre Resident Company members for our 18/19 season. Past productions that reflect the type of work the Alley Theatre is looking to produce in its 18/19 season include Angels in America, Twelfth Night, In the Jungle of Cities, and Travesties. We encourage actors of all genders, ages, and ethnic backgrounds to audition.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE by Steve Martin Hubbard Theatre (LORT B) First rehearsal April 10, 2018. Performances May 11 to June 3, 2018

Pablo Picasso – age 23. A seductive artist in the midst of his “Blue” period. Moody and brooding, but yearns for success. Passionate and temperamental. Any ethnicity.

Albert Einstein – age 25. A not-yet famous scientist currently working as a patent clerk. On the verge of publishing his theory of special relativity. Possesses the excitement and energy of a mad scientist. Any ethnicity.

Sagot– early 50s. Picasso’s art dealer. Vibrant and cunning, nattily dressed. Has a sharp wit that can come across as both warm and blunt. Any ethnicity.

HOLMES AND WATSON by Jeffrey Hatcher Hubbard Theatre (LORT B) First Rehearsal May 29, 2018. Performances June 22 to July 22, 2018

Watson– late 30s to mid 50s. A classic Watson. Polite, reserved, and detail oriented. A genius of sorts who is always three steps ahead.

Dr. Evans – early 40s to late 50s. Silky and officious, he is the man in charge of an Asylum on an isolated island. No nonsense and intense, but with a gentleman’s demeanor.

Holmes 1 – Early 40s to late 50s. Tall, thin, angular. The most acerbic Holmes. Threatening and dangerous.

Holmes 2 – Early 40s to late 50s. Tall, thin, angular. The most anxious Holmes. Currently unkempt and in a straitjacket. Highly intelligent.

Holmes 3 – Early 40s to late 50s. Tall, thin, angular. The most impenetrable Holmes. Steely and mysterious.
