• 1st Young Man (Searcher, Cisco): A young man is his early to middle 20s, who must be a fairly proficient guitar player. Baritone
• 2nd Young Man (Hobo, Folksinger): A bit older that 1st Young Man and more experienced; also plays guitar. Tenor/baritone
• Man (Writer, Cripple Whitey, Dad, Bar Man): Age range 40-60, plays a variety of character roles. He could play basic guitar, but is not required. Bass/baritone.
• Young Woman (Hobo Girl, Daughter, Bowery Girl): age range 18-25. Plays rudimentary guitar. Soprano with belt
• Woman (Hobo Woman, Mama, Saloon Singer): Age range 35-50. Guitar possible, not essential. Mezzo soprano with belt.

• Mr. Manningham: He is tall, good-looking, about 45. He is heavily mustached and bearded and perhaps a little too well dressed. His manner is suave and authoritative, with a touch of mystery and bitterness.
• Mrs. Manningham: She is about 34. She has been good-looking, almost a beauty—but now she has a haggard, wan, frightened air, with rings under her eyes, which tell of sleepless nights and worse.
• Elizabeth: She is a stout, amiable, subservient woman of 50.
• Rough: He is middle aged—greying, short, wiry, active, brusque, friendly, overbearing. He has a low, warm chuckle and completely dominates the scene from the beginning.

• Nancy: She is a self-conscious, pretty, cheeky girl of 19.

• Matilda: (6 to 10) An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.
• Mrs. Phelps: (30s to 50s) Warm and nurturing local librarian who encourages Matilda’s love of reading. She has an inner peace.
• Michael Wormwood: (10-15) Matilda’s older brother. He is not very bright and favored by their parents.
• Bruce: (7 to 14) Matilda’s classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
• Lavender: (7 to 10) Matilda’s classmate and friend
• Sergei: (30s) Russian Mafia Boss who is physically intimidating, with an accomplished Russian accent. Broad, masculine, intimidating with strong facial features. Rich Baritone
• The Acrobat: Female – A strong all round ensemble performer.
• Doctor: Part of Ensemble. High Tenor with a comfortable top A. Rock quality.
• Rudolpho: (20s to 30s) Mrs. Wormwood’s dance partner. Should be genuinely fit and athletic. Should have a flare for character comedy, and have a great vocal and dance stamina for the number ‘Loud’. High baritone with consistent Fs.
• Ensemble Roles: Adults and children; male and female
Precast
• Miss Trunchbull: (30 to 40) Headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School. Miss Honey’s Aunt. Once a famous athlete, she is described as a “gigantic Holy Terror”, a “fierce tyrannical monster” who “marches like a storm trooper with long arms swinging” with an “aura of menace”. High Baritone, with a strong F Sharp
• Miss Honey: (25 to 35) A mild, quiet person who never raises her voice and seldom seems to smile – yet possesses the rare gift of being adored by every small child under her care. She should have a curious warmth that is almost tangible. Soprano up to B flat, with a strong and solid belt up to D.
• Mr. Wormwood: (35 to early 40s) A dealer in second-hand cars – “a mean crooked crook” – with a penchant for wearing jackets with large, brightly colored checks. Should ideally be a clown and could have an ex-punkish rocker voice. Baritone
• Mrs. Wormwood: (30s) Mother of Michael and Matilda, and the wife of Mr. Wormwood. She is obsessed with her amateur Ballroom dancing partner and her looks. Like her husband she thinks very little of Matilda’s unique abilities and often berates her. She is as loud in her makeup and dress sense as she is in her voice – must have strong comedy. Strong belt up to F/G.
• Escapologist: A man who loves his wife and child more than anything else in life. Mysterious and larger than life. High Lyric Baritone

• Robert: (40s) Bernard’s friend; handsome, reserved, seems like an all-around nice guy but is a scoundrel.
Precast
• Suzanne: (40s) Bernard’s mistress; a fashion model with a great body, chis, stylish, easily flustered.
• Suzette: The cook; friendly, working class, funny, great body, a swan beneath the duckling exterior.
• George: Suzette’s husband, big, strong, protective of Suzette, not one to indulge in fooling around.

• Val Croley: (40s) female, blue collar and strapped, sensitive and raw, awkward and funny, creative and childlike—almost like she was frozen at the age she first succumbed to addiction: 19; a recovering opioid addict who’s come back from the brink more than once and is still standing at the precipice.

• Xenia Dove: (early to mid 60s) female, Chris’ mother, at one loving, warm and bull-headed, determined; nursing some deep felt loss; cooking and feeding is solace and obsession; she struggles with severe degenerative disc disease in her lower back.
• Chris Dove: (40s) female, fire captain, a born leader, driven, spunky, smart, and compassionate; courageous, except when it comes to her personal life; a stony countenance hides a tidal wave of emotion

• Dr. Ruth Westheimer: 65-75 years old, female, petite, short in stature, big in personality. Feisty, bold, maternal with an excellent sense of humor. A survivor.

• Violet Newstead: A smart, efficient, widowed mother of a teenage son who is constantly being passed up for promotion in the boys’-club world of climbing the corporate ladder. She runs the office from her desk while her boss takes the credit. She is frustrated with per position, but not bitter. Comedic role – witty and sharp. Low voice
• Franklin Hart: A pompous jerk of a boss. If he weren’t the boss, he would have no friends at all. Was trained by Violet, and then promoted ahead of her, so there is not love lost between them. Spends his time trying to seduce Doralee. Smarmy. Sexist, Egotistical, lying, Hypocritical, Bigot. Baritone.
• Judy Bernly: A meek housewife with her first foray into the working world when her husband runs off with his secretary. Judy changes throughout the play into a force to be reckoned with, taking control of herself and her life. Comedic role – confusion. Medium-high voice.
• Doralee Rhodes: A sexy, country gal who is the secretary for the boss, Franklin Hart. She is misunderstood at the beginning of the play die to rumors about an affair with the boss, but comes to be a strong cog in the machine that destroys Hart. Country singing. Comedy is sharp and no-nonsense. High-Voice.
• Joe: Charming, attractive accountant who is interested in Violet. Tenor. Doubles in the Men’s Ensemble.
• Dick Bernly: Judy’ sleazy ex-husband. Also doubles as the detective.
• Kathy: Office Gossip. Doubles in the Women’s Ensemble. Doubles as a new employee at the end of the show.
• Margaret: Office lush. Doubles in the Women’s Ensemble
• Maria Delgado: young and vibratn secretary. Get fired by Hart wrongfully. Doubles in the Women’s Ensemble. Also doubles as the Candy Striper.
• Josh Newstead: Violet’s teenage son. Must look young enough to pass as a teenager, but old enough to double in the Men’s Ensemble.
• Dwayne Rhodes: Doralee’s Husband. Country. Doubles in the Men’s Ensemble.
• Roz Keith: The office busy-body. She is in love with Mr. Hart, and does everything she can to undermine the rest of the office to earn his affections. Over the top comedic role. Low voice.
• Missy Hart: Hart’s wife. Fluttery and Ditzy. Doubles in the Women’s Ensemble.
• Russell Tinsworth: Chairman of the Board of the company. Colonel Sanders type.
