SEEKING

Ethnic actor/singer/dancers and ethnic classical actors for our 2017 Summer Season: Newsies, Twelfth Night, & Fences. Single show contracts are available

PREPARATION

If interested in Newsies, please prepare 32-ish bars of an appropriate song. If interested in Twelfth Night, please prepare a short Shakespeare monolgue. If interested in Fences, please prepare a short contemporary monolgue.

We are especially looking for male African American, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, and ethnically ambiguous actors who sing and are very strong technical athletic dancers.
Other open audition dates: UC Irvine and UC Fullerton 1/21

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

We are especially looking for male African American, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, and ethnically ambiguous actors who sing and dance well. Several will also need to be very strong athletic dancers.

Other open audition dates: LA & San Diego in late January, Seattle in early February. PCPA has a year round resident company; some roles are already cast.

Newsies

Director - Michael Jenkinson

Rehearsal May 30 - July 18

Run July 19 - Aug. 20

JACK- Looks to be 19 - 22 years old. Any ethnicity. Handsome, passionate and charismatic leader of the Newsies. A street-smart kid with a dark artistic soul right beneath the bluster. Not a blowhard. He's the real thing. Must have a great pop tenor voice and be a strong dancer.

DAVEY- Looks to be 17 - 21 years old. A thinker. Raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davie is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. A nice Jewish boy. Must have a great contemporary tenor voice and be a strong dancer.

KATHERINE PLUMBER- Looks to be 18 - 22 years old. Any ethnicity. The strong willed daughter of Pulitzer. This young lady drips smarts, opinions and confidence. A young Katherine Hepburn. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Must have a great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt. We are looking for a good dancer and a strong tapper.

MALE ENSEMBLE- All ethnicities! Strong athletic male dancers who can sing and look to be 16 – 24 years old.

VIOLA- Any ethnicity. Looks to be early 20’s. Strong verse speaker. A survivor. Charismatic. Smart. Aristocratic.

SEBASTIAN- Any ethnicity. Looks to be early 20’s. Strong verse speaker. Viola’s twin brother. A survivor. Intelligent. Free Spirit. Strong. Aristocratic.

ORSINO- Any ethnicity. Looks to be mid to late 20’s. Duke of Illyria. Romantic but naïve. Strong verse speaker. Attractive with strong stage presence.

All other role are cast.

Fences

Director - Timothy Bond

TROY is cast

CORY is cast

ROSE- Strong African American actor who looks to be 37 – 45. Troy’s wife and Cory’s mother. Compassionate and nurturing. Loves her family and determined to keep them together.

JIM BONO- Strong African American actor who looks to be 45 – 55. AKA Bono. Troy’s best friend. They met in prison. Bono admires Troy and sees him as a role model.

GABRIEL- Strong African American actor who looks to be 45 – 55. Severely wounded in World War two. Has brain damage with a metal plate in his head.

LYONS- Strong African American actor who looks to be mid to late 20’s. Troy’s son from a previous relationship. Aspiring Jazz musician who has no regular job. Grew up without his father.
