Please prepapre no more than two minutes of audition material: either two short contrasting monologues or a short monologue and up to 32 bars of music. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring your headshot/resume.

ANA 18, Mexican American, plump and pretty, sister of Estela, daughter of Carmen. She is a recent high school graduate and a young feminist.

ESTELA 24, Mexican American, plump, plain-looking, owner of the Garcia Sewing Factory

CARMEN 48, Mexican American, a large woman, mother of Ana and Estela. She has a talent for storytelling.

PANCHA 32, Mexican American, a huge woman who is very mellow in her ways, but quick with her tongue.

ROSALI 29, Mexican American, only a bit plump in comparison to the rest of the women. She is sweet and easy going

CHARLIE JANE - Female (mid to late 20's/strong singer/actress). An ambitious and driven singer/songwriter. Both a fighter and a dreamer. Must have a distinctive and dazzling pop sound.

GWYN - Female (25/Any ethnicity/quirky/very funny). Charlie Jane's best friend. Down to earth and practical. Vocal range: Belt up to D flat.

ALEX - Male (25-27ish/Any ethnicity/warm but strong young leading man, great sense of humor, but has a deep emotional well. Vocal range: Baritone up to F.

PETER - Male (Late 40s). Clearly troubled and complicated. Great anger at the loss of his wife to her musical career. Vocal range: Musical theatre voice with pop overtones, sings soaring ballad.

SCORPIO - Male (22-25ish/any ethnicity) Pop Sensation. A rock star. Strong, sexy, but also charming and funny. Vocal range: Rock bari-tenor up to a strong A flat.

LIZ - Female (early-mid 30s/any ethnicity/strong female/sexy/business woman)

KARINA - Female (late 20s-early 30s/any ethnicity/ supermodel turned pop star - spacy). A good singer gone wrong by the demands of the business, and taking the wrong advice.

AMANDA - Female (earl 40s/any ethnicity/Rita Wilson type. Strong stylish female). A tough woman in the strong male music business world. Vocal range: open. Strong singer.

JED BARNES - Male (40s/any ethnicity/Clive Davis type. Strong male.)

ENSEMBLE - Male and Female. Very strong singers at home with pop/rock sound. They play Charlie Jane's band members, Music Execs, Fans, Stylist, Co-Workers, etc.

OSCAR - African-American Tuskegee Airman and no-nonsense race man.

J. ALLEN - Bahamian Airman, very British and very proud.

W.W. - Street-wise African-American zoot-suiter from Chicago.

CAPT. O’HURLEY - White Bostonian with a chip on his shoulder.

BOMBER PILOT REYNOLDS - White Midwesterner. He also plays an Instructor and Col. Snopes in the Tuskegee scenes.

BOMBER CO-PILOT SHAW - White Southerner. He also plays the Staff Sergeant, an Instructor and the Barman in the Tuskegee scenes.

THE TAP GRIOT - African-American tap dancer living out the inner lives of the various players through dance. He taps emotions, good and bad, emotions that the soldiers were not permitted by the times or circumstances to express easily.

GEORGE/VALENTINA - male, forties. Married to RITA. An insurance salesman type as a man. Assured and charming. (Appears in and out of drag)

CHARLOTTE/ISADORE - male, fifties. The ultimate wasp. A buttoned down strict disciplinarian. Not your favorite aunt. (Appears in drag only)

MICHAEL/GLORIA - male, thirties. A very handsome and sexually charged chap who is accustomed to compliments whether dressed as a male or female. (Appears in drag only)

THEODORE/TERRY - male, seventies. Sweet and gentle and slightly silly like a favorite old auntie. (Appears in drag only)

THE JUDGE/AMY - male, seventy. Large, distinguished, powerful and imposing as a man, and a clunky sort of Tug-boat Annie woman. (Appears in and out of drag)

ELEANOR - female, fifty. The Judge's daughter. Brittle, cold and damaged.
