BREAKDOWN

We are open to casting deaf or hearing actors in each role, unless otherwise noted.

[STAGE MANAGER]– Female. 40s to early 70s. The host of the play and our omniscient narrator. She interacts with both the world of the audience and the world of the play’s characters. She is friendly, down to earth but not emotionally involved with the town. Matter of fact and well informed. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[DR. GIBBS] – Male. 40s to 50s. Town doctor. Unflappable. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[MR. WEBB]– Male. 40s to 50s. The gentler of the two parents. A bit of a town historian and editor of the local newspaper. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[MRS. GIBBS] – Female. late 30s to 40s. George’s mother and Dr. Gibbs’ wife. Pleasant. Has dreams. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[GEORGE GIBBS] – 20s. Dr. and Mrs. Gibbs’ son- HEARING. Earnest and athletic. ALL ETHNICITIES. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF ASL PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED.

[MRS. WEBB] – Female. Late 30s to 40s. Emily’s mother and Mr. Webb’s wife. Serious. No nonsense. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[HOWIE NEWSOME] – 30s. Kind simple soul. His best friend is his horse, Bessie. DEAF OR HEARING ACTOR. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[SIMON STIMSON]- Male, character. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF ASL PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[MRS. SOAMES]- Female, charactery. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF ASL PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[HEARING ENSEMBLE] Male/Female, 20-50, members of the town of Grover's Corners. ALL ETHNICITIES.

[DEAF ENSEMBLE] Male/Female, 20-50, members of the town of Grover's Corners. ALL ETHNICITIES.
