1st reh: 9/17/19. Runs 10/9-11/24/19. Goldman Theater

ALL actors must be physically expressive and able to transform into different characters on stage. Actors create the scenery and environment. The only major props or weapons are 6-7” rattan quarterstaves. All actors must be athletic, flexible, physically powerful, and imaginative.

Actor 1: MACBETH/Ensemble (Male, Any Age/Ethnicity). A brave soldier, married to Lady Macbeth, his ambition begins to run wild after hearing a prophecy by three witches that he will be made King. Deeply in love and connected to his wife, with whom he plots the murders of all who stand between himself and the crown.

Actor 2: LADY MACBETH/Ensemble (Female, Any Age/Ethnicity) Leading female. Macbeth’s wife, poised, well bred, fiercely intelligent, ultimately a deeply ambitious woman who wants position and power, but later falls victim to guilt and madness over her complicity in plotting the murders of Duncan, Banquo and others. Actor 3: MACDUFF/Ensemble (Male character, can be played by actor of Any Age/Gender/Ethnicity) Powerful, vital soldier, who mistrusts Macbeth and his rise to the throne, even before Macbeth arranges the murder of Macduff’s wife and child. In every way the ultimate protagonist.

Actor 6: BANQUO/Ensemble (Male character, can be played by actor of Any Age/Gender/Ethnicity) The brave, noble general whose children, according to the witches’ prophecy, will inherit the Scottish throne. Like Macbeth, Banquo thinks ambitious thoughts, but he does not translate those thoughts into action, and is eventually murdered by Macbeth. Straightforward, clear, uncomplicated, upstanding.

Actor 7: ROSS/WITCH 2/Ensemble (Male character, can be played by actor of Any Age/Gender/Ethnicity) A nobleman, serves Duncan and later Macbeth, because he must, but comes to understand Macbeth’s moral corruption. In the meantime, serves as a kind of consigliere, often bearing difficult news. Subsequently joins with Macduff and Malcolm to remove Macbeth from the throne.
