Breakdown

2016-17 Nora Theatre Company Season

MARJORIE PRIME
By Jordan Harrison
1st Rehearsal 8/15, Runs 9/8-10/9

Seeking:

MARJORIE
85. Losing her memory, Marjorie is just as stubborn and candid as in her younger years. She is direct, vain, and traditional. Her comments are often cause for a laugh, but can also belittle others. Marjorie struggles to remember the suicide of her 13-year-old son that has strained the relationship with her daughter. Feeling guilty and like a burden, she waits for death.

WALTER
early 30s. Walter is the audience’s introduction to the “Prime. He is life-like replica of Marjorie’s late husband, but appears like his bright eyed and soft-spoken younger days. He is created through a collection of memories told by family. Occasional slips in his style of speech can give him away, but overall he is no less human than the others. He wants to be a true support for Marjorie by accurately representing the real Walter

TESS, This role is cast.

JON
55. Jon is Marjorie’s son-in-law and Tess’s husband. He is kind, caring, and optimistic. His more hopeful and laid back outlook contrasts Tess’s need for control. He supports the “Prime. Optimism separates him from the pain that is clearly present in Tess and Marjorie throughout the play. Jon loves Tess wholeheartedly.

JADE EMPEROR, King of Heaven:
An omnipotent being, he along with Guanyin and the immortals narrate the quest.

GUANYIN, a bodhisattva:
Kind and powerful, she is intent on redeeming several of her followers to the ways of Buddha. She helps Tripitaka on his quest.
