SEEKING

Equity actor and singers for the 2017-18 Season. Local Watertown, MA area Actors preferred.



PREPARATION

Equity appointments are scheduled in five-minute intervals, and each Equity Member has three minutes to audition. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout the audition day as time permits. Please prepare material of your choice (including, if you wish, selections from the season’s repertoire). For those who wish to perform a scene, a reader will be available. Please be prepared to state your starting and stopping places. An accompanist will be provided for those who are singing.

Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

DON QUIOTE: A character. A country squire who becomes a dauntless night
CERVANTES: A playwright and an actor. A man of gentle courtliness leavened by humor. He is childlike in his ingenuousness, curiosity, and candor. A prisoner.

SANCHO/THE MANSERVANT
(Vocal Range: Tenor C3-G4) (50s or older, M)
SANCHO: A character. Squire to Don Quixote.
THE MANSERVANT: Suspicious and pragmatic. He has a long and comfortable relationship with his master, CERVANTES. He is a prisoner.

CAPTAIN OF THE INQUISITION

THE GOVERNOR

HANNAH
(early 40s, F). She's the back office of the consulting firm and the most senior person in the room. She is overworked but extremely capable. She holds authority by easily switching from laughing at jokes to telling others what to do. She has an MBA and is an expert in logistics and finance.

BROCK
(late 30s-early 40s, M) A backslapper. Brock is the team leader of the three consultants. He played football in the Ivy Leagues. He is good looking, avuncular, a little bit sadistic. Brock is an MBA and an expert in organizational structures.

TED
(late 40s-early 50s, M). He's been a road warrior for many years. A family man from Texas. He has a very faint accent. Ted is a Civil Engineer and an expert in transportation processes.

SANDEEP
(late-20s, East Indian, M) The youngest of the consultants, a recent PhD in Industrial Engineering and an expert in manufacturing processes. He has a lovely English/Indian accent. He is completely assimilated but perhaps over-compensating. He projects arrogance and gentleness with equal frequency.

SCOOTER
(early 20s, M) Getting his MBA. He's in an entry-level position, working for HANNAH. His father is high up in the company.

J.D.
(50s, M) The CEO of this company. He has a severe attitude, projects brilliance and scorn. His face is never seen. May be played by the actor playing SCOOTER.

Role CAST. (40s, M) A Professor. A performer and steamroller in conversations. Skeptical.

Role CAST. (40s-50s, M) Art forager. Loud and modern. He has a shallow sense of self and is dependent on pills and the attention of others.

GEERT PILLER:
(40s- 50s, F) Art historian. Dutch resistance member. She is and intellectual. Simultaneously curious and serious.

ISHAQ
(60s, M) Afghan Jew. Cerebral, high-minded, stubborn. A “Torah nerd” and traditionalist.

A WHITE WOMAN (FRIEDA JOUBERT):
South African. A librarian. Shy, quiet, and fearful. She is uneducated about her own privilege and prefers to live in dark. Involved with the COLORED MAN.

A COLORED MAN (ERROL PHILANDER):
South African. A school Principal and a dreamer. Oppressed and ashamed. Involved with the White woman.

A POLICEMAN (DETECTIVE-SERGEANT J. DU PREEZ):
South African. Serious and thorough.

(40s, M): An agoraphobe and a homosexual. The owner of a map store. Enjoys the quiet and simple things.

CARL
(early 30s, M): A homosexual. Unfixed, erratic, and a liar, but not in a cruel way. He is deeply impacted by the AIDs epidemic.

(40s, F), Town Historian and Stage Manager of the High School Theatre production. Her mouth can’t always keep pace with her brain. Ebullient and flirtatious. She prefers to see only the good in the world and her son.

MIRIAM
(40s, F), Professor of Literature and director of the High School Theatre production.

FELICIA
(40s, F), Surgeon. An intellectual. She lives her life with a keen sense of a ticking clock. Believes in free range parenting.

MATT
(17, M), Felicia's son. Loves his mother. Carefree and young.

HADLEY
(17, F), Miriam's daughter. Carefree and young. She has the appearance of being innocent and somewhat tortured.

BRYAN JAMES MCNAMARA
(17, M), the Michigan shooter. Monstrous. Could be played by the same actor who plays Matt.

BETHANY
(14, F), a younger classmate and Zoe's neighbor. Awkward, she always seems slightly smelly and vaguely guilty. She’s a bit of a stalker. Video tapes everything on her iPhone. Could be played by the same actress who plays Hadley.
