Five-minute appointments. Each Equity Member has a minimum of three minutes to audition. Please prepare material of your choice (including, if you wish, selections from the season’s repertoire). For those who wish to perform a scene, a reader will be available. Please be prepared to state your starting and stopping places. Scripts are available at StageSource, 88 Tremont St., Boston.

Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

All roles are available unless otherwise specified. No understudies are being cast. All roles are available for non-traditional casting.

Mainstage:



IN THE WAKE by Lisa Kron. Dir: Kate Warner. 1st reh: 9/20/11. Runs 10/9–10/30.

Ellen:

Mid 30s. Intense, liberal, self-reflective conversationalist.

Danny:

Mid 30s. Public school teacher. Ellen's partner. Cynical, yet likable.

Kayla:

Mid 30s. Aspiring writer. Danny's sister, Ellen's best friend, Laurie's partner.

Laurie:

Mid 30s. Kayla's partner. Chef. A little high-strung.

Amy:

Mid 30s. Experimental/art filmmaker. Lesbian. Very intense.

Judy:

Mid 50s. International aid and human rights worker. Close friend of Ellen. Irritable. Strong political beliefs.

Tessa:

African American girl, 16. Judy's niece. Very questioning. Slightly naïve.



ART by Yasmina Reza. Translation: Christopher Hampton. Dir: Antonio Ocampo-Guzman. 1st reh: 12/26/11. Runs 1/15/12 – 2/5/12.

Marc:

Mid 40s. Aeronautical engineer. Practical, down to earth. Although he is Serge’s good friend, he is unsettled by Serge’s modernism.

Serge:

Mid 40s. Dermatologist who fancies himself a connoisseur of modern art. Although his personality is usually agreeable, he is offended by Marc’s judgment.

Yvan:

Late 30s/early 40s. Works in stationery. Although he is generally tolerant and positive towards others, his transition to a new career and his upcoming wedding have made him tense and on edge.

LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT by Eugene O’Neill. Dir: Scott Edmiston. 1st reh: 3/6/12. Runs 4/2/12 - 4/22/12.

Jamie Tyrone:

30s. The older son. Broadway actor. Religious Catholic, although he no longer attends church. Attractive to women and popular with men. Has difficulty finding work, due to a reputation for being an irresponsible, womanizing alcoholic.

Edmund Tyrone:

20s. The younger, wiry, more intellectual and more poetic son. Extremely nervous, sensitive. Has sailed around the world, but now is sick with consumption. Politically inclined, with socialist leanings.

Cathleen:

20s-30s. One of the servants. Largely oblivious to the troubles of the family for whom she works.

James Tyrone:

CAST. 60s. Military-like posture and bearing. Has been healthy his entire life. Free of hang-ups and anxieties, but has “streaks of sentimental melancholy and rare flashes of intuitive sensibility”. Smokes cigars. Dislikes being referred to as the “Old Man" by his sons.

Mary Tyrone:

CAST. 50s. Wife and mother of the family. Lapses between self-delusion and the haze of her morphine addiction. Was once extremely pretty; still striking. Wears no make-up. Her hair is thick, white and perfectly coiffed. Has large, dark, almost black eyes. Has a soft and attractive voice with a “touch of Irish lilt when she is merry”.

Black Box:

COLLECTED STORIES by Donald Margulies. Dir: Bridget Kathleen O’Leary. 1st reh: 11/8/11. Runs 11/27–12/18.

Lisa Morrison:

26-32. Ambitious student and writer. Longs for continued training and success.

Ruth Steiner:

CAST. 55-61. Looks every bit her age. Somewhat curmudgeonly university writing teacher; also, a renowned writer of short stories.

Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs. Dir: Kate Warner. Co-production with Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater (Wellfleet, MA; NEAT). Actors may be cast in both productions. 1st reh (Wellfleet): 7/26/11. Runs in Wellfleet from 8/11-8/28. 1st reh (Watertown): 2/7/12. Runs in Watertown 2/26-3/18.

Maude Gutman:

50s. Unemployed, stubborn and vulgar bartender. Lives in a trailer park. Although tough and crude, she is sincere and honest.

Lionel Percy:

60s. Art expert, famous for determining the authenticity of art. Elegant, refined, well-dressed gentleman.
