Prepare a song appropriate to the style of show. Please bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided but may not transpose. Actors will also be asked to read sides from the script. Visually impaired performers may request sides in advance from the theatre. Provide a picture & resume, stapled together.
Seeking experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities. Strong movement abilities are also required.
Henry Higgins
Mid 30s-mid 40s, baritone. Henry Higgins is an upper class British bachelor. A world famous phonetics expert and teacher, he loves language and despises anyone who does not appreciate it or use it properly. Higgins is a contradiction in terms and is always himself no matter who is around. He wants things his way and can be petulant when he does not get what he wants. However, he is always likeable because there is always a good-humored nature behind what he says and does. He is magnetic, witty, frank, critical, vain, and controlling. Deep down he has a soft and gentle nature but he does not let anyone see it. He speaks with a standard British dialect.
Eliza Doolittle
Early 20s, soprano. Eliza Doolittle is a cockney flower girl from Lisson Grove. Raised by an absent drunkard father, she has learned to stand on her own two feet. She has been controlled a lot by men but she will only take so much abuse before she stands up for herself. Eliza wants to become a respectable English lady with her own flower shop. She is smart, feisty, independent, sensitive, and captivating. You notice her whether she is on the streets of London or in an Embassy ballroom. There is a grace and charm to everything she does, even if it is screaming and throwing slippers. She speaks with a Cockney dialect and a standard British dialect.
Colonel Pickering
50s, baritone. Colonel Pickering is a retired British officer who has an expertise in language and phonetics. A confirmed bachelor, Pickering is the classic British gentleman. He is kind, caring, polite, respectful, and plays good cop to Higgins’ bad cop. He is an elegant man with good taste in clothes, food, and spirits and has knowledge of the world beyond England’s borders. However, he can also be a bit mischievous but always in a playful good-natured way. He is devoted to Higgins and would do anything for him. He speaks with a standard British dialect.
Freddy Eynsford-Hill (also plays George, Servant, Footman)
Early 20s, tenor. Freddy is an upper class British young man. He is completely smitten with Eliza and would do anything to be with her. He has been sheltered by a protective mother and his world view is narrow. A hopeless romantic, he sees the world through rose-colored glasses. He is handsome, dashing, naïve, pleasant, and an all-around good guy. Freddy is a fool for love and can be completely controlled by any woman in his presence. He speaks with a standard British dialect.
Zoltan Karpathy (also plays Cockney Man, Butler, Charles)
30s-40s, tenor. Zoltan Karpathy is former student of Henry Higgins and a phonetics expert in his own right. However, he likes to use his ability to manipulate and blackmail people. He is devious, arrogant, and condescending. He speaks with a Hungarian dialect.
Harry (also plays Hoxton Man, Servant, Dr. Themistocles Stephanos, Lord Boxington)
40s-50s, tenor. Harry is a good friend of Alfred Doolittle and likes to drink. He is a sidekick for Doolittle and is devoted to him. He is loud, raucous, and coarse. He speaks with a cockney dialect.
Jamie (also plays Selsey Man, Servant, Constable, Lord Tarrington)
40s-50s, baritone. Jamie is a good friend of Alfred Doolittle and likes to drink. He is a sidekick for Doolittle and is devoted to him. He is rowdy, spirited, and cheerful. He speaks with a cockney dialect.

Alfred Doolittle (also plays Mrs. Higgins, Busker)
CAST. 50s, baritone. Alfred Doolittle is the father of Eliza and a dustman. He has never really been tied down by anything or anyone, and will always land on his feet, no matter the circumstances. He loves women, liquor, and money. He is the life of the party and the type of man that people follow, even if he was leading them off a bridge. He is charismatic, sly, selfish, and humorous. He is not above bending the rules, the law, or his own morals to get what he wants. He speaks with a Cockney dialect.
Mrs. Pearce (also plays Mrs. Eynsford-Hill, Queen of Transylvania, Pub Keeper)
CAST. 40s-50s, alto. Mrs. Pearce is the long-time devoted housekeeper of Henry Higgins. She is more than just a housekeeper and is the closest thing he has ever had to a wife. She takes her job seriously and has great respect for Higgins. She has always taken care of things for him and likes her routine. She can become quite prickly when it is interrupted. However, she is not afraid to voice her opinion when she feels things aren’t right. She can be stern but also very nurturing. She is courteous, controlled, and caring. She speaks with a standard British dialect.
