Strong singers and actors for roles in MRS DOUBTFIRE. NON-AEA children will be seen at a later date.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a 32 bar pop song or musical theatre pop song (i.e. “DEAR EVAN HANSEN,” “MEAN GIRLS,” or similar) showing range. Bring sheet music. A piano accompanist will be provided. Bring a photo/resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN
[DANIEL HILLARD/MRS. DOUBTFIRE] Male, late 30s, any ethnicity. A funny, impulsive actor and father of three who is a bit of a kid himself. He has a gift for voices and a slight problem with the truth. A great improvisor, quick-witted, short attention span, can’t pass up an opportunity to insert a joke or quippy response. But big-hearted and loves his kids more than life itself. Strong comic chops. Strong tenor with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[MIRANDA HILLARD] Female, late 30s, any ethnicity. Daniel’s wife (and eventually ex-wife). She has become exasperated in her marriage by her husband’s childlike behavior and his failure to support her in her work or at home. She is a strong and smart woman whose ambitious business plans have an ethical dimension as well. Strong alto with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[FRANK HILLARD] Male, mid-40s, any ethnicity. Daniel’s older brother who does hair and costumes with his husband, Andre, for stage and screen. He is more principled than his unreliable brother and advises against Daniel’s crazy schemes – mostly because they make him very nervous. A tad neurotic, he can’t help shouting when he is forced to lie, which is becoming more frequent than he would like. Strong comic chops. Strong tenor with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[ANDRE] Male, late 30s, African-American. Frank’s husband. Does make-up and styling with his husband, Frank. He’s a big Donna Summer fan; she gave him the confidence to come out when he was 12. More grounded and steady than his partner, usually takes the moral high ground. Calm, confident, self-assured, poised, impeccably dressed. Stylish and knows it. Strong comic chops. Strong tenor with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[WANDA SELLNER] Female, late 30s/early 40s, African-American. She is a smart and formidable Court Liaison officer. No-nonsense and nonplussed, she has seen all sorts of families and parents and she doesn’t suffer fools, and will not be deflected by Daniel’s jokes. Underneath the tough exterior is a tender compassion that sees her go beyond the remit of her job on behalf of the welfare of children and families. Strong soprano who can sing power rock. PRINCIPAL
[LYDIA HILLARD] Female, 15, any ethnicity. Daniel and Miranda’s daughter, has borne the brunt of their marital battles and their divorce and is angry at both of them, but she keeps a lid on it. Acerbic with a biting sense of humor but not snarky or sullen. She’s trying to keep her emotions in check as she is forced to grow up faster than she ever anticipated. She looks out for her younger siblings, and challenges both parents about their choices. Strong alto with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[CHRISTOPHER HILLARD] Male, 12, any ethnicity. Daniel and Miranda’s son, a typical pre-teen boy who is a high-energy fast talker and likes soccer and video games and doesn’t like math. Usually good-natured, upbeat, and even-tempered, he tries to play a bit of the optimist and peacemaker between his parents. When he discovers Mrs. Doubtfire’s real identity, he is not as good as his sister at keeping the big secret. Strong singer with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[NATALIE HILLARD] Female, 8, any ethnicity. Daniel and Miranda’s daughter is sweet, innocent, and brutally honest but occasionally vulnerable about her parents’ fighting. No filter on what she says, she loves her family, she loves stories, and hates kale. Strong singer with pop sensibilities. PRINCIPAL
[JANET LUNDY] Female, early 40s, any ethnicity. Powerful, frank, driven, and decisive. Head of the local network and in charge of programming, she is confident and business-like with a good idea for talent. Sings in group numbers. PRINCIPAL
[MR. JOLLY] Male, late 60s/early 70s, any ethnicity. The host of a children’s TV show and has been since the ‘70s. A less good Mr. Rogers who mentally isn’t all there and probably should have retired years ago. His ponderous presentation style is so bad it is funny. Sings in group numbers. PRINCIPAL
[STUART DUNMEYER] Male, late 30s, any ethnicity. Handsome, rich, and successful. He’s physically fit but also modern in his view of what women actually want. Progressive, strong, confident, and well on his way to the Fortune 500 list. Strong comic chops. Strong tenor with pop and crooner sensibilities (a la Michael Buble). PRINCIPAL
