PLAID:
JINX (Tenor): the shy one. Terrified and scattered. Journeys from timid to confident as the show progresses. Needs to break out with a dramatic soaring tenor voice.

FRANCIS (second tenor): The leader of the Group. He has the most confidence, yet must be as humble as they come.

SPARKY (Baritone/Lyric Baritone): The Clown. He is always looking for a way to crack jokes. This actor must have impeccable comedic timing and love to perform. Eventually this class clown is shown to have a heart.

SMUDGE (Bass/Lyric Baritone): The worrier. The awkward one. He wears glasses until the end when he reveals his sex appeal, i.e. Clark Kent/Superman. Ideally sings from low C (negotiable) to G1 (not negotiable.)


Wonderettes:
Betty Jean Reynolds: alto with a strong low range, plays late 20's, she is the class clown, tomboy, always vying for attention with Cindy Lou, her best friend. Cindy Lou steals Betty Jean's boyfriend away, which causes a lot of the friction at the prom. She holds this grudge against Cindy Lou until they make up at the 10-year reunion. Among the songs she sings are: "Lipstick On Your Collar," "I Only Want to Be With You" and "That's When The Tears Start."

Cindy Lou Huffington: mezzo-soprano belt, plays late 20's, Cindy Lou knows she is the prettiest girl at Springfield High. She knows she will be named Prom Queen and acts out against her best friend Betty Jean when things don't go her way. She makes the biggest change between Act I and II, having learned the lessons of true love and loss. She sings lead line on most songs. Among the songs she sings are: "Allegheny Moon," "Son of a Preacher Man"

ANNIE:
Oliver Warbucks: age range 40-65, warm-hearted, stiff-collared host to Annie with soaring baritone: a distinguished musical theatre actor;
Miss Hannigan: age range 35-60, cantankerous and mean orphanage director, comic timing a must, superb leading character actress;
Grace Farrell: age range 25-35, faithful assistant to Warbuck, graceful beauty with soaring soprano and crisp business demeanor;
Rooster Hannigan: age range 25-40, Miss Hannigan's "no-good" brother, with excellent comic timing and movement skills;
Lily St. Regis, age 25-40, Rooster's floozy girlfriend with excellent comic timing, soprano range and strong movement skills;
Franklin D. Roosevelt: Casting Pending on this role; resumes will be taken for backup;
Drake: Warbuck's English butler;

Tracy Turnblad: mezzo-belt, plays high school age. Female, 5' to 5'5", must be heavyset, outgoing, unstoppable, goodhearted with a vibrant, loveable, spirited personality; loves to dance; becomes a teen heroine; strong pop belt singer and great mover;
Edna Turnblad: Non-Equity Casting Pending on this Role (resumes will be taken for backup);
Wilbur Turnblad: Non-Equity Casting Pending on this Role (resumes will be taken for backup);
Link Larkin: plays high school age, Male, handsome, sexy, clean-cut, good-hearted, down-to-earth. The heartthrob of The Corny Collins Show, Amber's boyfriend at first, but he soon falls for Tracy. Strong pop singer and great mover; Penny Pingleton: plays high school age, Belter, Female, Tracy's best friend. Not too quick and slightly neurotic, but completely loyal. Kind of a nerd with a plain exterior that hids an actually attractive young girl. Strong pop singer and great mover;
Seaweed J. Stubbs: tenor, plays high school age, Male African-American. Cool, sexy, street smart, good-hearted. Strong, soulful tenor pop singer and great mover.
Amber Von Tussle, Belt, plays high school age, Female. The bratty, selfish princess of The Corny Collins Show. Attractive snob with a good physique. Strong pop singer and great mover.
Velma Von Tussle, Mezzo-belt, age range 40's to 50's, female. Strong controlling former beauty queen, Amber's mother and producer of The Corny Collins Show. Upscale, attrative, prejudiced snob who always wants her daughter in the spotlight.
Motormouth Maybelle: alto-belt, age range 35-55, female African American. Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, Queen of Baltimore Soul, a radio DJ. Powerful and inspiring, with an infectious, brassy personality. Large Physique. Strong, soulful gospel/pop singer.
Little Inez: belt, must be able to play early teens, female African American, 5'3 or shorter. Spunky, tough, street smart, outgoing, older than her years. Seaweed's loveable little sister. Strong pop singer and good mover.
Corny Collins: tenor, age range late 20's to early 40's, male, handsome T.V. host. Smooth, charming and smart. Stylish and hip enough to be idolized byt eh "kids". Strong pop singer and good mover.
Female Authority Figure: age range 30's to 50's, female character actress. Plays the matron guarding the Big Dollhouse, the Gym Teacher, and Prudy Pingleton: Penny's overprotective and often close-minded mother.
Male Authority Figure: age range 30's to 50's, male character actor. Heavyset. Plays Mr. Pinky, owner of Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway who gives Tracy and Edna a makeover, Principal of Patterson Park High School, and Mr. Harriman F. Spritzer, the President of Ultra Clutch.
Ensemble: plays high school age. Energetic singer-dancers for the roles of The Corny Collins Council (Brenda, Tammy, Lou Ann, Shelley, Brad, Fender, IQ and Sketch) and 7 African-American singer-dancers for the roles of Gilbert, Duane, Thad, Lorraine and The Dynamites. Must be strong pop singers and great dancers.
