Seeking (all listed roles will be or may be on Equity contracts; all are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):

Henrich:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Man, 30s. Leander’s servant. Adores women, and enjoys opportunities to go to masquerades. Fiercely loyal to Leander, even though Leander is frequently foolish and gets them both in trouble. Continually outwitting others to protect himself and Leander. Considers Jeronimus a fool and enjoys making fun of him. Engages in debates with Jeronimus to prove that he can outsmart him. Likes dressing up in disguise, and is constantly plotting ways to make Leander’s life better. Disdainful of the other servants, particularly of Arv. Master of wit and quick thinking. Extremely intelligent and tricky.

Leonard:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 50s. Leonora’s father; friend to Jeronimus. Very liberal in contrast to most men of his class. Loves his daughter and wants her to be happy. Considers masquerades to be a perfectly acceptable way for young people to enjoy themselves, as long as they don’t do it too often. Believes in “everything in moderation”, and tries to convince Jeronimus to have more faith in the younger generation. When his daughter disobeys him, he begins to fear that he has been too liberal, doubting himself and fearing the judgment of Jeronimus.

Pernille:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Woman, 30s. Servant to Leonora. Filled with a lust for life. Loving adventure and romance, she is eager to assist Leonora and Leander in any way she can. Although not as quick as Henrich, she is able to outwit the older generation, and keeps a careful eye on Leonora. Attracted to Henrich and eager to work with him to secure the marriage of Leonora and Leander. Earthy, bawdy; has a great sense of humor. Frequently engages in debates and ploys to outwit Leonora’s father.

The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Jeronimus:

CAST. 50s. Wealthy businessman. Determined to marry his son to the daughter of an even wealthier friend. Disdainful of the younger generation and believes that his son should obey him. Deeply conservative and obsessed with his idea of proper conduct, he hates the current trend of masquerades and blames them for a breakdown of contemporary morality. Demands complete obedience from his wife and son. Orders his servants to keep order in his home and to spy on his family when he is away. Refuses to entertain his family’s pleas to have fun. Quick to anger. Easily duped by his son’s servant, Henrich. Enjoys pontificating on his views and refuses to listen to alternative opinions.

Magdelone:

CAST. 50s. Jeronimus’s wife. Not as young, as fit or as pretty as she used to be, she longs for an opportunity to experience the excitement of the youth that she has always been denied. Frightened of her husband, but determined to outwit him and have a chance to witness a masquerade. Thinks she can outwit Jeronimus, but is quickly overcome when her plans are revealed. Longs to escape from the severity of her home, and is envious of her son’s adventures. Behaves differently around everyone besides her husband, revealing her sense of humor and her desire to re-capture her youth. Quickly intimidated by her husband. To the younger generation she is a bit of joke, because she tries too hard to seem up-to-date.
