SEEKING

Equity actor/singers for various roles and ensemble.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief cut of a pop/rock or contemporary musical theatre song in the style of the character you are auditioning for. Please also bring your book and be prepared to sing a second brief cut, if asked. An accompanist will be provided. Bring hardcopy headshot/resume.

BREAKDOWN

SYNOPSIS: The songs of the pop group ABBA provide the score for this romantic comedy that contrasts the dreams and desires of a young woman about to become a bride with those of her mother, a free spirit of the 70s who never married. “Mamma Mia!” takes place at a taverna on a Greek island.

The role of DONNA is cast.

SEEKING

[DONNA UNDERSTUDY] Female, Caucasian, late 30s-mid 40s, the mother of a 20-year-old girl. Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called Donna and the Dynamos who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Mezzo belt with a full sound and pop sensibility. Lead.

[TANYA] Female, Any Ethnicity, late 30s-mid 40s, a former singer in the Dynamos. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Actor who sings. Mezzo belt. Lead.

[ROSIE] Female, Any Ethnicity, late 30s-mid 40s, also a former singer in the Dynamos who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings – Alto/Mezzo. Lead.

[SOPHIE] Female, Caucasian,18-20, a very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Strong pop belt with upper mix. Lead.

[SAM] Male, Caucasian, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Actor who sings. Bari/tenor. Supporting.

[HARRY] Male, Caucasian, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Actor who sings. Baritenor. MUST DO AN ENGLISH ACCENT. Lead.

[BILL] Male, Caucasian, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Should be a very good actor who sings well. Bari/tenor. Lead.

[SKY] Male, Any Ethnicity, mid-late 20s, Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, very attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Strong singer. Tenor. Lead.

[ALI] Female, Any Ethnicity, 18-25, Sophie's friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. Should sing and dance well. Featured ensemble role.

[LISA] Female, Any Ethnicity, 18-25, Sophie's friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Should sing and dance well. Featured ensemble role.

[PEPPER] Male, Any Ethnicity, early to mid 20s, Sky's friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, handsome and a womanizer. Must be a good mover/dancer. Preferably with Russian toe touches. Acrobatic skills a plus. Bari/Tenor. Featured ensemble role.

[EDDIE] Male, Any Ethnicity, early to mid-20s, another friend of Sky's and a hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing. Must be a mover/dancer role. Bari/tenor. Featured ensemble role.

[MALE ENSEMBLE] 20s, Any Ethnicity. Excellent singers with great pop/rock voices. Very good dancers (acrobatics and partnering skills a plus). Looking for dynamic, diverse and interesting types/personalities.
