BREAKDOWN

Lady Macbeth (Female, 30s-40s) – Wife to Macbeth. Her ambition is possibly greater than Macbeth’s. After the bloodshed begins, she spirals into madness eventually leading to her death. She is an equal to Macbeth. Must have a strong command of heightened language.

Macbeth (Male, 30s-40s) – A general and a ferocious warrior. Killing Duncan in his ambitious ascent to the throne is only one of many atrocities he commits which ultimately consume him with paranoia, madness and a false sense of invincibility. Must have a strong command of heightened language. Stage combat skills a plus.

Banquo (Male/Female, 30s-40s) – A noble general and a warrior. The witches prophecy that his sons will inherit the Scottish throne. He also harbors ambitious thoughts but, unlike Macbeth, he does not act on them. He is assassinated by murderers hired by Macbeth. Stage combat skills a plus.

Witches 1-3 (Male/Female, age range open) – One of the three beings that prophecy to Macbeth. The witches are ever present and may or may not be manipulating the strings of human fate and destiny. Though they refer to each other as “sisters” they may not fit within a specific gender identification. Ability to sing and/or spoken word background a plus. Experience with Viewpoints, LeCoq or other physical discipline also a plus.

Malcolm (Male/Female, 20s) – One of two sons to Duncan. He flees Scotland shortly after his father is murdered and eventually helps lead the fight to dethrone Macbeth.

Duncan (Male/Female, 40s-60s) – The King of Scotland who is murdered by Macbeth.

Lady Macduff (Female, 30s-40s) – Wife to Macduff. She is a stark contrast to Lady Macbeth. Her murder and that of her children fuel Macduff’s quest for vengeance.

Porter (Male, 40s-60s) – The drunken doorman at Macbeth’s castle.

Murderers (Male/Female, age range open) – Three assassins hired by Macbeth to kill Banquo, his son and the Macduff family. These roles may be doubled with the witches.

Thanes/Lords (Male/Female, 20s-50s)

Some of the roles above will be doubled with other roles not listed.

Some characters will be cut or folded into other characters.
