BREAKDOWN

Seeking the following role only:

KERRY:
A 24-year-old, African American female. A 2nd year law student at the University at which William Kunstler is scheduled to speak. KERRY is highly intelligent, considerate in her manner,
deliberative in her thinking, and non - combative in her personality. KERRY is not a strident Angela Davis – she is a young woman on track to become the next Sonya Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, or Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She feels deeply but keeps her emotions in check – preferring ‘reason’ to ‘reaction’ as she wrestles with the issues of her conscience. KERRY is on the committee that chooses speakers for the law school. Even though Kerry was raised admiring Kunstler for the work he did in his early years – particularly for her own father who was a Freedom Rider - Kerry voted against inviting William Kunstler to speak because of his recent, highly publicized, unpopular cases. When she finds herself having to welcome, introduce, and host William Kunstler’s lecture on behalf of the committee Kerry’s inner conflict is palpable. Kunstler, aware of her having voted against him, tries to get Kerry to explain her objections. Reticent, but finally drawn out by Kunstler, Kerry calmly and systematically lays out the legal
flaws in his recent cases, as well as her personal disappointment in what she feels is his misuse of his celebrity and intellect – he was one of the reasons she wanted to become a lawyer
