BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

SEEKING

:

Lola/Simon: 25-35 male (African American) – A prize fighter draped in satin. He is a heterosexual crossdresser… eccentric, lavish and outspoken. An emotionally and physically challenging role. Has the body of a boxer with the soul of a Diva. Has a star presence and is comfortable wearing everything from full drag to nothing but boxing trunks. Has a killer voice with power blues and gospel chops. A high tenor…sings C3–B4 with one top C. Able to move extremely well in high-heels, wigs and women’s clothing.

Charlie Price: male 25-35 – A confused young man who inherits his father’s shoe factory. He’s unfocused and misguided but is a hero under a victim’s mantle. He is handsome and loveable but there is a temper right under the skin. High tenor rock belt. Sings C3–B4

Nicola/Others: female 25-35 – Charlie’s long-term girlfriend. Attractive and smart. She is driven and uncompromising. High pop belt.

Lauren: female 25-35 – A beautiful, strong and outspoken working-class girl. She works in the shoe factory and has a huge crush on Charlie. A strong comic with a high pop belt. Sings B?3–F?5

Don/Others: male 30-40 – A hypermasculine bear of a factory worker and Lola’s nemesis. He has a menacing physicality but ends up being a teddy bear. Sings C3–F4 (must have a strong falsetto to D5 for the Finale).

Pat/Others: female 30-40 – The shoe factory’s officious office manager who will let loose when given the change. Lola’s love interest.

Trish/Others: female 45-55 – Factory worker with a family to worry about. Old school and set in her ways…a bit of a broad…but comes around in the end.

Angels: males 20-30 (all ethnicities) These are the drag personalities that populate The Blue Angel night club in London. Excellent dancers in heals able to sing extremely well (high pop). Previous drag experience helpful but not necessary. Acrobatics a plus.

Male Ensemble: Men of all ethnicities (specifically one African American male for the track that includes Lola’s/Simon’s father). Excellent singers able to move well AND move well in a heeled boot as all characters end up in high heeled boots at the end of the show. Roles include Mr. Price, Harry (guitar a plus), Simon Sr., and Richard Bailey

Female Ensemble: Women of all ethnicities (specifically one African American woman for the track that includes Lola’s double). Excellent singers able to move well AND move well in a heeled boot as all characters end up in boots at the end of the show.

FRANKIE VALLI (Lead) MALE, 20-35; 5’9 or shorter; has a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and is able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli; strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G; charismatic and charming; comfortable with narrative text and has a gritty side as well as a polished veneer; very comfortable with four-part harmonies.

TOMMY DEVITO (Lead) MALE, 30-40; strong tenor/baritone voice, comfortable with traditional four part harmonies; comfortable with narrative text; ability to play guitar a strong plus; a natural-born leader with appealing bad-boy quality.

NICK MASSI (Lead) MALE, 30-40; strong bass/baritone voice, very comfortable with traditional four part harmonies; comfortable with narrative text; a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons.

BOB GAUDIO (Lead) MALE, 20-35; preferably tall; strong tenor/baritone voice; very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; comfortable with narrative text; an intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy.

S: FEMALE, 20-35; Frankie’s daughter; named for, doted on and KINKY deeply loved by Frankie. She’s a Jersey girl—vulnerable, lost and acts out to make up for lack of attention from her dad. A variety of other roles including a member of a 60’s style girl group and a tough-as-nails Jersey girl. Strong, high belt useful. Belt to high F extremely useful, high straight tone soprano also useful but not required; very good dancer.
